Do you consider it settled...

that no changes will be made/announced on defensive staff until after the bowl game?

Zero percent chance we win the bowl game without a new dc. The players need a spark and reason to be excited even if the new dc wouldn't be able to imlement his scheme.

I agree, and hope that it is not settled. We need to get moving.
I keep reading this Guilbeau stuff saying prospective coordinators don't want to discuss jobs that aren't open, and, more ominously, nobody's been called back off the recruiting trail and no interviews/meetings with current staff have been scheduled.

Les himself said changes would be made prior to the bowl game.

"I'm not going to address other issues at this point," Miles said. "I'm just going to operate from the premise that there are going to be some adjustments made, without question. First and foremost, attitude. First and foremost, doing the right things. I think we will in the short-term."

Miles clarified that "short-term" means before the bowl game.

that would be very concerning

Even if we made a defensive coaching change before the bowl game, there's no way in hell that a new DC could install a new defense within several weeks. That is unrealistic to expect. If we beat GT, it will be with our current staff, without changes. Could I be wrong? Of course, but I don't think so.

Exactly- when we beat Notre Damned in the bowl game back in the 90's, Dinardo had just hired Lou Tepper, so he used most of the exisiting defense with a few wrinkles which confused ND in the game. Little did we know his 'complete package' would eventually destroy our defense...

1.) We are playing a team that will require a unique approach anyway
2.) While the entire system wouldn't be in place, the new coaches could install the basics and adapt to the old scheme themselves in the short term.

I agree a new d could not be installed but we might as well put the new coordinator in place for team morale. the players obviously gave up on Teppermaleveto and there is no way we win with them leading us.

He may not be able to install a new defense, but maybe he can light the fire under the D and change attitudes. Nobody expects a new d installed so quickly, but a change in mindset could happen quicker.
What do we have to lose? Do you think a new coordinator would do worse? Worth the risk IMO.

Miles may have a DC picked before the bowl game, but he is too classy to not let our current coaches earn their post season bonuses. Let's just relax and wait til after the bowl game for the announcement... the new coaches would not be able to implement their schemes and plays in time anyhow.

i believe the new DC will be "hired" prior to the bowl game, but the public knowing about it will depend if those on the chopping block have secured other jobs. If they have, Miles will give them the choice of coaching the bowl game or not. If the new DC does not coach bowl game, it will give him a head start on possibly assembling his defensive staff. I think Miles will give him a lot of autonomy in the hiring process. I think the new DC should be able to recommend coaches he believes will allow his system to flourish.

I hope you guys are right about the behind the scenes things possibly taking place. I don't think a new DC matters terribly much for the bowl game. I just don't want to have Miles decide not to address the issue until after the game and consequently have fewer choices available to him.

whoever the new dc is i doubt he could fix our clusterfrick of a d by the bowl game. i really don't care when the change is made, just that it's made and a few position coaches i won't mention are given their walking papers.

I thought that game was by far the best game that Tepper coached in his infamous career at LSU!

if something doesnt happen this week, then nothing will happen until after the bowl.

the new DC would not need to install an entire new scheme. they would just need to have a game plan for GT. it will not be any different from what the current DCs would have to do.

Yeah, I'm sure those seniors on defense will suddenly wake up and perform well for a new DC. Look, they packed it in for Ole Miss and Arky and this bowl game will be no different.
For the others, just imagine how confused they'll be if a new DC attempts to install a new defense in 3 weeks. It doesn't happen that way. Now, I can see them playing harder because they will be auditioning for a job next season.
