The funniest thing is that many here will use a move to Texas by Saban as an indictment of the Alabama program, the fans, and Tuscaloosa as if the fact that his tenure here being 2 years longer than anywhere else he has ever been still means the Bama job sucks.
I disagree. In fact, he will leave Bama in good shape moving forward. The big question is whether Bama will find a coach that can keep the train rolling and for how long. I don't remember hearing anyone saying that Bama sucks.

I think he'd be stupid to leave and have to build another program up when he's got Alabama rolling. An honest dynasty.
But my posts on TD don't always reflect the opinions of the user behind the keyboard, sooo
He gone

No.

Please refrain from a simple usage of "He gone" and give me an idea for why you feel he will stay/he will go. Thanks, and have a great day.
I think the only place Saban would leave Bama for is the NFL. In college, I see no good reason for him to go somewhere else, anywhere else. He's been in Tuscaloosa for 7 seasons. He's already been to the NFL but the right offer may tempt him to try it again one day.

stop the saban is too old to leave nonsense.
he built a program in disarray (bama) up in what, two years? three? (i don't track bama's purported NCs).
Doing it at three diff programs would make him the GOAT.
PERIOD.

I think he'll leave because there isn't a challenge left at Bama. He's done everything you can do at a school. 3 championships in 5 years, sec championships, heisman trophy winner, etc etc etc. Sure they didn't get there this year, but you aren't going to win every single game every single year...you just aren't. I think it's too easy for him at Bama.
Not like it would be tough at Texas. They'll be Bama next year if he goes there. They have the recruits and the facilities and the support....they just need a coach that isn't an idiot. His Texas teams will probably be better than his Bama teams.

I have said from the beginning that I thought Coach Saban would remain at the University of Alabama until he retired.
I have also said that I could see him returning to the sidelines after a year of retirement.

No, I don't see him leaving at this time. I agree with those whi think his involvement with the community post 4/27/11 has tamed his wanderlust. As appealing as the UTx job might be, I can't see any compelling reason why he would feel the need to put himself through the rigors of rebuilding yet another program, this time in a conference with which he has no prior experience or strong ties.
That said, there are two plausible reasons why he could step down before 2014:
1) Ms. Terry wants him to retire. I've contended all along that she has been the driving force in their off-field relationship (i.e., he's whipped) and I think all of his previous career moves have been a compromise between his desire for a challenge and her happiness with the locations. Just a hunch, but I think she was opposed to the idea of leaving Red Stick for the NFL, but went along with it because he wanted it so badly, and that she persuaded him to take the Bama job. Bottom line, he's going to listen to what she tells him to do. It all depends on whether she tells him its time to hang it up this year, or later (I admit, this scenario became less likely after Kick Six - I imagine they'd both like to go out with another title).
2) He's just tired of the bullshite. Call this Stallings Syndrome. Remember the emotional post-Iron Bowl presser back in '96 when Mean Gene called it quits? Did you know Saban is about six months older now than Stallings was at that time? There was quite a bit of speculation that he wasn't through with coaching, that he just couldn't stand dealing with the combined pressures of meddling boosters, whining fans, annoying media, the NCAA, and an incompetent AD any longer. I've heard he planned to get out of Bama, spend a year with his son, then find an HC job at a lower tier school, but his horrific ranch accident permanently altered that plan. While Saban has far more control over the program than Stallngs ever did, some of the same issues still apply - and they would be as bad or worse in Austin, which is why I think he's more inclined to retire, even if only for a year, than take yet another high-profile gig. Throw in the likelihood that they may be down next year (down meaning 8-9 regular season wins rather than 11-12) and I think the thought of stepping away for a while may have crossed his mind. He's shepherded the Tide through the greatest 7-year period in it's storied history - why not walk away now?
Tl;dr answer: no, he won't take the Longhorns job, and likely will be back at Bama in 2014, but it wouldn't shock me if he retired.

I don't think he's leaving, but I was a lot more confident about that opinion a few days ago

Does his wife want to live near that new grandbaby or does she want to stay in Tuscaloosa far away from that baby? That is the real question. If she wants to go, well HE GONE.
People forget 1. They are fricking loaded. 2. Nick works stupid hours so its not like his wife being in TX for a month with the grand baby would affect him. 3. Nick dont give a frick about family.

I agree. These coaches dont give a shite about their own kids generally speaking.

Yep and I know people who directly dealt with him in Baton Rouge and if you said to them "Nick is leaving Bama because of family reasons" they would laugh in your face and tell you how stupid you are.

I'm leaning 70% leaving vs. 30% staying and it has to do with two things.
1) If the rumors about a lot of bad debt from his LSU days are true and Texas boosters are just going to buy him out of all of his debt if he signs on with Texas then he'd be stupid not to leave. I don't know how any school can compete with that or be expected to pay off tens of millions of debt for someone.
2) Boredom. If I and other Bama fans get bored with the lack of competition outside of 1 or 2 games a year then I have to imagine Saban would be extremely bored. Why not make a huge cash grab, have all of your debt erased, and have some wealthy Texas billionaires on your side.
Posted on 12/10/13 at 8:40 am to NBamaAlum
Nobody knows for sure. I do think it would be funny and if there is one school that would (and could) pay him more than BAMA it is the University of Texas. They have the second largest endowment in the entire country behind only Harvard. They could probably scrape up the coins in their couch cushions to pay SABAN.

Interesting post on ShagBeev..

Is that really the Bama AD and Mack conversing? Brown's wife Sally with the slumped defeated shoulders looking on?
