Did we push Florida to hire Napier quickly?

I haven’t read many threads the last few days, so it may have been brought up. I’m sure Florida was aware of the chatter about us possibly having interest in Napier when it was looking like we missed our shot at Riley.

There search was pretty quick. I wonder if they did that trying to stick it to LSU thinking we whiffed on our big target and we’re potentially going to fall back to Napier. So they got him quick thinking they may have been stealing “our guy from Louisiana.”

It would make all of this even better if so.

Yes. Napier wanted the LSU job, he waited as long as possible. Never happened.

Stricklin was reportedly eyeing him since before he officially fired Dan...It wasn't to "stick it" to anyone, he just wanted to go out quickly and secure our guy.

Because there is no reason to wait months.

There's a lot of reasons to wait. If you're considering any coach, he will likely be in the middle of the season with an entire team depending on him to do his job. Then there are all his coaches and their families and there is the surrounding support staff and their families. Kelly committed when his regular season ended and he's still getting roasted nationally.

I don’t think they hired him to spite us. But if it did make us jealous I don’t think that would have upset them. He will be a great coach for them except when they play LSU.

Kelly reached out to Florida. Not sure if they offered him. But Napier seemed to be their only target.

Every one knew that Napier wanted to take the next step from ULL.

Every one knew he was interested in LSU.

“Every one knew” LSU was interested in him.

I think the Napier to LSU rumors helped him not only to get the Florida position, but I’m sure he’s agent whispered “LSU” to get the best contractual terms.

Not sure how Napier/Florida will work out, but I wish them the same ills as I wished for Mullen/Florida because of the “ permanent rivalry SEC crap”.

"But Napier seemed to be their only target?"

With all the NFL and College coaches to select from, why would Billy Napier be the only target of the big bad University of Florida of the Southeastern Conference?

Why would they go hard and exclusively for the HC of a small regional State University when there are so many more coaching options out there?

Anybody with a fully functioning brain knows the answer to that.....

The ad had already interviewed him for the Miss state job. So a lot of the research had been done on his end. Napier had done nothing but improve, so eliminated a lot of the crap. People can debate and fuss about Napier and Lsu. The guy was ready for a big time job. And I’m sure will have some success..

Well, they wanted someone fast. Before esd. I imagine he wasn’t the only guy that came up, but not outside the realm of possibility he was their top obtainable target. They moved pretty quickly.

Dude, he was almost the Auburn coach last year. He's been a hot name, he's not some unknown.

LSU had zero to do with it...And even if they did, it's irrelevant because Billy Napier Was the first, and according to some, the only candidate for the head coaching job at The University Of Florida...If Nape would've turned Stricklin down, we would have been scrambling and probably hired some knob job like Kiffin.

I said it from the beginning that that guy would not be a candidate. He wouldn’t get a sniff.

Whether it was conscious or not, yes it absolutely impacted their decision.

The propaganda Jordy was shoveling worked, just on the wrong AD.

LSU knew Napier wouldnt be considered
Napier knew Napier wasnt being considered
Florida knew Napier wasnt being considered
The searches were 100% independent of ea.other

Local media wanted the local guy but Woodward left aTm with a list of rockstars to bring here and he's sticking to that list
