Did we have a coach like Riley actually interviewing with LSU this early on last time?

I recall the coaching search last time not being very successful from the get go. No coach wanted anything to do with lsu and that’s why we settled. Am I wrong?

We settled on Herman early, no plan B, and he left us at the altar. Alleva sucked

Yes, you’re wrong.
LSU/Jimbo agreed on Terms, nothing in writing. Alleva leaked the news. Then Jimbo/Sexton came back wanting more. Killed the deal in 15.
LSU / Herman agreed on Terms, nothing in writing. Alleva leaked the news. Herman then tried to get LSU/Texas n bidding war. Alleva “had his guy”.

Not true. Once Herman was out of the picture, LSU still found itself in an unusual position: Excellent Recruiting Coordinator and an Excellent Defensive Coordinator. The only thing missing was an OC. You keep most of the staff, which was also one of the best in the country, and that locked up the recruiting. That option just started to make sense, and had the potential to be better than starting completely over.
And it fricking worked!

At the time Les Miles had a lot of sympathy in the coaching world and many saw LSU as being ungrateful and somewhat unreasonable in how they handled him as the 2015 season ended and then how he was fired 5 games into the next season. If you don't think coaches and agents don't look at that you delude yourself.

There was a coordinated effort to leak about Jimbo and Herman, so that Ed could slide in.
Alleva didnt realize he was being undermined by his own employees, and not the agents of those 2 coaches.

We almost had Herman who was the hottest name of the cycle and when that blew up we instantly hired O.
Saying no one was interested ignored the fact that Alleva always wanted O and went to him pretty fast.
