We've seen Dewayne Walker mentioned about LSU's DC and it's been said that Les Miles has been in Califorina recently. Be it, a recruiting trip to see Hicks or to see Janzen Jackson's mother. Is that all? We'll see.

As for Walker, people have mentioned that he probably would take a HC gig before he would go to LSU to be the DC. The only schools that I've heard Walker being mentioned as a possibility was San Diego St......

here's a little bit of info on that job....

It is believed former Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione is a prime candidate. Others who could be on the radar are former Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green, UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker, former Minnesota coach Glen Mason and former Colorado coach Gary Barnett.

Looks like Mike Martz is in the mix, too. Dude clearly sees the handwriting on the wall and knows he's not long for the NFL any longer.

Two former HCs competing with Walker, who has never been a HC before. The guy they just fired, Chuck Long, was a hotshot young coordinator who...had never been a HC before.

Does SDSU follow up a "bad" hire who had never been a HC before with a guy who fits the same description, experience-wise?

Martz is an interesting possibility, but I don't know how much name recognition he'll have with HS recruits. Maybe SDSU needs to add a couple more zeros to the salary offered and attract a bigger name with a some recruiting pull.

The best name on that list. I don't know why more schools don't look at him.

I'm one of those who has said that. However, I'm not so sure he'll get a HC job. He's 48 and has never been a HC. That might work against him. Plus, UCLA's overall poor record in the last 3 years doesn't help.

I'd love to see LSU get him. I just don't see him making a lateral move right now.

not exactly one of the big boys, but there are much worse places to be paid a lot to live than San Diego.

personally, that is the only place I'd even remotely consider in CA, and only if they pay me Tom Hanks kinda money.

He coached with Miles at Oklahoma State. He currently makes $330,000 at UCLA. Looks to be part of the process in Miles talking to several people but no offers to anyone yet.

I would say lsu is a definite step up not lateral. If he was from usc or texas that would be a differant story. Plus we can double his salary.

if he's making $330k in LA we could pay him the exact same thing and would be equivalent to a 20% raise.

Nah, a lotta posters don't want him. Only thing I don't really like is that we may very well be looking for a new DC again next year if we get him, because it looks like he's gonna be a head coach soon.

Based on what?

Is LSU a better team right now? Yes. Could LSU pay him more? Yes. But being a DC at one is no different from being a DC at the other. They're both major Div 1 schools in major conferences.

I think he'd only take the LSU job if he'd given up on being a HC. Why put your family thhrough such a major move only to do it again in a year or so?

Good point. But, look at the recent LSU coordinators' circumstances:

Jimbo- OC FSU (HC in Waiting)
Pelini- HC of Nebraska
Muschamp-* DC UT (HC in Waiting)

* = obviously from AU directly, however AU much more similar to LSU than UCLA

My point is that SUCCESSFUL coordinators at LSU / SEC schools tend to move to big time program HC jobs. From UCLA, he is in running for SDSU and Fresno State (no offense intended to those institutions)
