We all found out Riley bailed on us at the same time last night.

Nothing is a done deal until the ink is dry. Surely Lsu's administration isn't this naive right?

“ Let’s first get something straight. The reports connecting him to the job—some even claiming he accepted it already—were wholly unsubstantiated and, for the most part, not credible.”. From same article. Someone pulled it out their arse and it spread

There's been a few posters on this board that cautioned against this very thing happening, but they were lambasted by the majority around here.

It's not a failure if Woody threw everything he could offer at him, and he still didn't want to leave OU. Sometimes money isn't everything to a coach.

Plus there was never any "real" smoke from a legit insider or CFB reporter, it was all message board posters with fake and embellished inside sources looking for attention.

When someone with some credibility would come out and say "my sources are telling me Riley to LSU isn't happening" that reporter/insider got largely ignored and brushed off like "lol they don't know anything, Woodward doesn't leak!" But then you were trusting posters here claiming they somehow had info leaked to THEM.

Everyone here did it to themselves, they got all wrapped up in message board rumor and started bragging and partying like it was a done deal when it wasn't. It's not anybody's fault but the ones who refused caution.

Whatever happened between LSU and Riley wasn’t a complete fabrication. Influential boosters and others around the university expected him to be the program’s next leader. After all, how could he turn down a chance to be college football's highest-paid coach?

I could have literally scripted this weeks ago. This is the classic “we totally had him guys but it fell through last second” line. It’s meant to make you feel better but the truth is you never had a shot.

Um, this has happened to us before...a few times.

Every couple of years we get a coach to agree in principal and then back out. Happened with Jimbo (that time LSU caused the issue via our idiot President who didn't like the optics), happened with Herman, and now it appears to have happened with Riley.

LSU is Icarus when it comes to coaching searches.

Holy crap these guys are fricking delusional. They thought they had him because they were going to write the biggest check? In that case why doesn't Texas just go get Saban for $25m a year?

How does a nobody like me know that it had to be more than money to get Lincoln Riley to leave that situation?

I see why we ended up with keeping Les for so long and then hiring O.

I remember when we lost out on Bill Snyder and ended up with no name Nick Saban.

LOL at all the groupies in this thread still believing what TBL has to say.
How can "deal is done" and "Stoops is the backup" come out of the same meeting at some suite in Tiger Stadium? If the the deal is done then a second choice isn't needed.
Y'all have been so gullible with this guy. Sheesh
