Do you agree? One said yes one said it’s a push
I laughed at first but the more I thought about it I’d prefer TCU in todays climate.
FYI it was on The Athletic podcast with Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman

I think it is, no question

The instability of the big 12 hurts TCU. Otherwise, I think it’s a better job and easier to win at TCU right now

It is but will wither away after getting rid of the best coach in modern school history

Nebraska should go back to the Big 12. They could win there, recruit better and be successful.
They would leave a bunch of money on the table, but their fans want to win in football. They don’t care if they have a badass soccer field.

100% agree but no way they leave that B10 money for what will soon be little 12 money

Oh, I agree. But much of the financial windfall goes to stuff fans don’t care about.
Virtually every Nebraska fan would trade that money to be competing for Big 12 titles and recruiting Texas again.
And winning makes you money. Nebraska is a rich program that sells out every game.

It may be a push today, but that won’t last. Nebraska doesn’t have a great setup for recruiting, but they still have a better name, a bigger fan and alumni base, and most importantly, a real conference with a big TV contract constantly bringing in a large amount of money.
What does it matter that TCU happens to be located in the Dallas metro if the B12 falls apart? If that happens, only OSU is a lock to find a P5 landing spot. The rest, including TCU, will be scrambling to get one of the one to three spots that may open up for expansion elsewhere. Anyone who doesn’t get a golden ticket becomes a de facto G5 program as the B12 becomes a slightly improved version of today’s AAC.
If the B12 does manage to stay together, it’s almost worse for TCU. Once UT and OU leave for the SEC, projections show their TV contract will be a little better than the AAC’s is today. That alone cancels any advantages they may have as a P5 program. Without that money coming in, they will never have the facilities and recruiting budget that bigger P5 programs do. Unless they hit another grand slam hire, they won’t be able to offset that disparity.

No, not at all. Nebraska will remain a P5 school in the Big 10. I really question the financial viability of the remaining schools in the revised Big 12 or whatever it will be.
I really think the revenues of those schools is vastly reduced as they won't command TV contracts worth any other conference.
As a result, I see coaching at any of those schools as a possible deterrent.

Yes. If I’m a coach and had a choice between the 2 I’m choosing TCU. Better recruiting area and with OU and Texas coming to the SEC they’re going to have a chance at becoming the kings of the Big 12

Nebraska used to be a super elite program. Not any more. I’d take the TCU gig.

Yeah
I would Rather live and recruit to Fort Worth than Lincoln.

20 years ago no, today yes.

Nebraska has kind of worn off as a national brand and it's really hurt their recruiting. Not a ton of talent in the states around them either. If they can't nationally recruit they are screwed. Tennessee shares a similar problem, but unlike Nebraska, they are surrounded by talent rich states and too many high caliber schools to pick from and they always end up with scraping the bottom of the barrel. Nebraska doesn't even get to do that, so they need to recruit on a national scale even more so and it just isn't working for them anymore. A school like TCU can scrape the bottom of the barrel in Texas and Louisiana and get more talent than Nebraska can recruiting the best players in their state and around them.

I’ve been to a game in Lincoln. It’s a incredible atmosphere. There is no way TCU can compete in this respect.

I know it’s popular to rail on Nebraska, but of course TCU isn’t a better job than Nebraska. Is it maybe easier to recruit and win at TCU than Nebraska?… probably. But that doesn’t make TCU a better overall job. Nebraska is a better overall program, in a better conference, with better resources, better fan support, and a better brand.
Nebraska is a good job. TCU is an okay job. But comparing the 2 is apples to oranges…one is a big boy job, the other is a stepping stone job for anyone not named Gary Patterson.

So glad to see this post. I was going to be much more blunt about it.
It's laughable to think TCU is even in the same ballpark with Nebraska. Minus Gary Patterson / Francione, TCU's best year was in the mid-80s with Jim Wacker. Prior to that, you go back to the 60s.
There is no metric where TCU is better....none.
1. Recruiting - This one is at best a push, but really not even that. Nebraska is still a national brand, and only needs a competent coach. I still remember in Houston where nearly every sports bar had entire sections roped off for Nebraska games to handle their fans.
2. Facilities - Not even close. TCU has a nice stadium, but it's small. They don't even have a 100 yard regulation field in their indoor practice facility. There are probably 10 high schools within 50 miles of them that have that.
3. Fan support. Nebraska has 80,000 for every game, even when they suck. TCU could have a playoff team, and they wouldn't sell out the 45,000 unless the other team bought half the tickets.
4. Conference. Nothing needs to be said.
5. History.
A joke that it's even a conversation

Yep.
A coach would be insane to chose TCU over UNL unless they want job security with lower pay.
