Wake Forest can't compete in this landscape

Kind of like MLB now, Pirates, A's, etc might as well fold

I’m really not sure he wanted a bigger job. I live in Winston-Salem and he’s a simple guy. He literally does his own grocery shopping for his entire family. I see him often on Sundays at 10am strolling down the aisles.

He just wanted the tough task of making Wake Forest the best football team they could be. The transfer portal and NIL now make that task burdensome.

Fulmer not letting Clawson fully run the offense that he wanted to cost Fulmer his job.

Hate both. College football will be the USFL in a few years.

Too much with the portal and NIL, especially at Wake.

We will see many more step downs and not "firings" in the near future.

yeah a lot of these smaller schools that were paying HCs 1mil+ is likely coming to an end.

I think you’ll see a lot of that at the top end too. Coaches basically had their transfer portal era the last 20 years with the Jimmy Sexton contracts that always went up

Seeing a very quick downturn in that trend, with things like Norvell just giving 4-5 mil back to FSU for NIL- I think the long game will have the big time coaches making a whole lot less than they do currently or compensating being built differently

I could see a coach going hey give me 2 mil as a base, commit 8 mil a year that normally would go to paying a top end coach into NIL, and then you give me a percentage of the playoff/national title check as a performance bonus when we win.

Wake has 5500 undergrads and is private.

Arkansas is 20000 undergrads and is public, 2 entirely different problems.

Haha completely different. Owners are billionaires they just choose not to have massive payrolls.
