Mullen isn't an elite hire.

Word in Starkville is that Mullen turned down Oregon's request to interview
That would be incredibly stupid

So you went from asking what his ceiling would be at Oregon to knowing he isn't an elite hire all from the contents of this thread?

Impressive....

An elite hire is Saban, Urban, Harbaugh, Chip, Chris Petersen, Sweeney, Fisher. Hermann was the biggest up and comer.

I wouldn't have to ask about the ceiling of those on the list.

If you have to ask, it isn't a slam dunk aka "elite" hire.

So what you are saying is not even an elite coach was able to win a NC at Oregon?

He has the Miami job locked up until Richt got fired. He's wanted out of Starkville for a while.

Neither has Dabo, Harbaugh, or Petersen. Elite means you are in the picture each year.

Don't forget Orgeron. I'm told by baws from Fourchon that he is elite. I think you guys should go after Orgeron. Sure, he has a career losing record as a head coach, but he promises not to mess with his coaches by doing any coaching.

Orgeron to Oregon has a niece ring to it.

Mullen has more currently elite NFL talent than Oregon does. Elite coach in your eyes or not, the man pumps out strong players.

Most SEC fans will tell you he's the second best coach in the conference. I would love for us to have the luxury of dominating the SEC East, much less the BIG, PAC, or any other league your list of "elite" coaches reside in.

No one could be an amazing recruiter at Moo State. Put him at LSU and he would suddenly be known for recruiting prowess

I don't agree with you, and there are several articles which discuss it. This being one of them.

I think Mullen is great at developing lesser talent. He could honestly be one of the best at this, but actually getting recruits in the door has been an issue for him, and it's not all on the fact that he is at moo state, although i do agree it is part of the problem.

Oregon won't hire a better coach than Dan Mullen.

He would have no ceiling at Oregon. They should be a playoff team once every 3 or 4 years and contend for the northern division every year.
