Wow!

A flat $12MM buyout as well. I like Mullen, but that's a lot of money. He is now the highest paid coach in Florida. Pretty amazing the price tags coaches are getting these days.

LSU is gonna have to pay a coach $10M/Year in 3 years when we fire Orgeron.

$10m for Saban, $7.5 for Gundy, $6 for Mullen...

And only one SEC title to go around each season.

Some fan bases are not going to be happy in a few years.

Nah. Alleva will hire Ensminger to be HC at $3.5M. What a steal!

nonsense
UTSA was 4-8 and 3-9 the 2 years previous to Frank showing up. Now they are going to 2 bowls in 2 years under Frank.
Dude is going to be a star.

At what point is it no longer that big of a deal for these coaches to not succeed? Mullen could get fired after year 4 and walk away with close to 40 million.

I think the AD position is going to be more and more critical going forward.

With all the established coaches getting stupid amounts of guaranteed money, a savy AD with an eye for snagging up and coming coaching talent will be way more valuable than the established coaches and their insane guarantees and buyouts.

Yeah, I think Mullen at 6M/year is too much but we shall see.

Wrong. His compensation this year is around 11MM due to one time stuff, it goes back to around 8MM next year.

OVERPAID. Mullen is a good -not GREAT coach. He will have some success, but not what the Gators are expecting. 4 years and out is my prediction.

His success at UTSA is likely all due to great recruiting so far. The game plan, schemes, and player personnel issues are at a different level in the SEC. Don't act like he would be a slam dunk. He's never even been a coordinator

This. Going forward we need more of a Theo Epstein type AD, instead of the old political crony ADs.

Didn't Chip get 5/23? Though they probably told him up front that they could not pay what the top couple would make.

It's not my money, so I don't give a shite, so long as it doesn't affect university/AD operations. I mean, frick it, give him $20M if we can afford it. It's only money.

How could it not impact you negatively if Mullen is fired for whatever reason after a few seasons? The salary isn't as crazy/detrimental as the buyout, imo. You would be paying New Coach, Mullen, McElwain, and Muschamp.

I don't think he's gonna do poorly, but with that type of money comes high expectations. Hopefully he delivers or they're going to be paying 3 ex-coach's buyouts in a few years.

I don't understand what Mullen is thinking. Why got to FL for only another $1.75 million? Mullen was making $4.25 million at State. (What's the cost of living in fricking Starkville, MS?) The fans loved him and he could have stayed there forever by consistently winning 8 or 9 games a season and winning in the double digits semi-occasionally. That shite gets you fired at Florida and in the meantime, you've got fans and boosters a mile up your arse until they do fire you. Which, if the past is any indication, won't be very long from now.

Maybe he wins a National Championship he was unlikely to ever win at State. Maybe he's always planned to retire at age 50, so he was only going to coach a few more years anyway. The guy looked like he had Kirk Frerentz like job security at MSU. But unless he's the second coming of Steve Spurrier, he's going to be gone from FL in a few years.
