Conversation at the game. Two names I think that are rising...

Just my opinion , Aranda's game plan was phenomenal, defense did its job.. It was a chess game between Aranda and Kiffen. Kiffen yes is douche bag, but his play calling ability and adjustments were phenomenal. He didn't want to put his quarterback at risk but he did what was needed to win the game. He began to run the zone read/wildcat and QB ISO the rest of the night.. I was chatting with the guys in the stands actually wanting us to run the same thing..something to get their defense on their heals, some type of miss direction to negate some of their speed... Bama adjusted why shouldn't we? I always knew he was a talented play caller, just didn't much like him as a head coach, maybe he's learned how to act and carry himself around Saban.. He would def get an interview in my mind.. He has a new QB every year and they don't miss a beat.
The other is Chad Morris, I don't care what his record is at SMU, they were a dumpster fire when he got there, and he is turning it around.. I think with either of those hires I believe Aranda will stay on as DC.. I think he is waiting on the hire to make his decision and it wouldn't surprise me if Alleva was gathering his opinion or might be apart of the interview process somehow..
Just my two cents... I'll check back in the morning to reply.

I like Chad Morris. I don't think Kiffin was/will be a very good HC. Great OC. Just can't see him as LSU's HC.

Morris seems to be doing nice things in Dallas, but they lost 51-7 this weekend and likely won't make a bowl looking at their remaining schedule.
I don't care how tough the SMU job is. It would be silly to give him a serious interview now just because they suck a little less in his 2nd year. Without the Houston win, I doubt his name ever gets posted on this board.

I posted his name before they played Houston. Personally I think it was a mistake for him to take the SMU job. I thought that when he took it, I guess he had strong enough ties to think he could recruit well enough there. I just think it's a dead end job

Word on the street is the Aggies are tired of Sumlin shitting bed @ the end of the season. Expect a coaching change if he loses 2 more. Chad Morris is someone they have their eye on.

was funny that some guy last week called that Miss St loss in a post and got drilled for it... hell i got drilled for saying yea it could happen, St beats someone every year that they arent suppose to beat.. it was coming.. I still dont think they would fire sumlin, but nothing would surprise me with all that is going on right now.. would depend on alot though... his contract, etc..

Dropping Herman that quick? Isn't Morris from Mesquite (Dallas suburb)?

His adjustments wee not phenomenal. LSU had him shut down.
1)The T.D. drive. (it was aided by a late hit out of bounds on third down by devin white. The call was questionable at best) They have to punt and the drive never happens if you take that call away. There was nothing in Kiffin's play calling that aided more than that flag.
2)Hurts doesn't score that t.d. w/o obvious holding on Neal and Key. It was pointed out by gary Danielson. So, is it the play call or is it fortune/execution.
3)LSU defense obviously wore down to some degree in the fourth due to the offense not getting any first downs. Not sure Kiffin's play calling had anything to do with that. Bama's defense did.
maybe he's learned how to act and carry himself around Saban.. He would def get an interview in my mind.. He has a new QB every year and they don't miss a beat.
Did you not see Kiffin's tweet after they beat USC? don't think he's learned how to carry himself.
So Kiffin, who's failed twice is deserving of interview. However, O isn't. Not that I'm a supporter of O. I just find this logic fascinating. We will over look Kiffin's failures but not O's.
It definitely helps Kiffin that he has the most talented team in the country to call plays with. The defense is the best. The offensive line is one of, if not, the best. he's has playmakers all over the field. Bama's talent has made many o.c's look good. Mac, Nussmeir, and now kiffin.
With that said, I think Kiffin is a good o.c. Especially after watching our game, I don't think he is phenomenal. He looked frustrated and was aided by his defense and a more talented team on offense to win that game. Aranda, on the other hand, was phenomenal.

i didnt drop herman, i still feel as though he is the admins top priority, that hasnt changed, this is just my opinoin on who they should go after.
nor sure where Morris is From, I just know where he has been, my dad coached against him a couple of times. I think he would be a good one to go after. I still think there are about 3/4 hires I would be happy with
Chip Kelly
Chad Morris
Mike Gundy
I think we could get one of those three.
yes, id be happy with Herman/Fisher etc.
My top choice we cant hire.. Art Briles.. You give him the talent that LSU has and he is the guy that would make Saban sweat at night.

Gotya. I wasn't too sure if he lost steam after the Navy and SMU games.

I wouldn't want my university to be associated with him. He's the Tommy Tuberville of Texas football. Plus, he's 61 I believe.

Has O ever been seen by a majority as a dominate X's and O's play caller or defensive play caller?.. No he hasnt.. he is disqualified..
That old saying its not about the X's and O's its about the Jimmys and Joes is only partially true, it takes both, great recruiting, which O does (Thats why he should be a DL Coach and Recruiting Coordinator only) and a play caller to play to the strengths of his players and the situations. I think Kiffen does both of these things well..
yes did they have help with the refs, absolutely. but his offense still got the job done in the end.
Frankly, match him with Aranda and you have two of the best play callers in the country..

yes he was.. I think Alleva has to do everything in his power to keep him.. Associate head coach, coach in Waiting, Etc.. I would also up the contract to 2 million a year plus huge buyout he is worth it.
Posted on 11/7/16 at 8:32 am to TigerFan55555
You can bet the administration is talking to Aranda to assess is interests/concerns about the current coaching situation -- they will do everything in their power to keep this guy and the defensive staff.

You think Nick saban is undefeated coaching at vandy right now? nope. It's more about the Jimmys and the Joes than it is the x's and o's.
If you going to beat saban, you better have as many Jimmy's and Joe's. I don't care what you do about the x's and o's. If you don't have them, you are not going to win.
Everyone keeps saying match Jimbo, Kiffin, whomever with Aranda. Didn't Kiffin have a hall of fame d.c. at USC? I think his name is Monte Kiffin. how did that work out? Didn't Malzahn get teamed up with Muschamp? how did that work out?
At the end of the day If you don't have someone getting the jimmy's or the joe's, they aren't going to compete. You can not coach Jonathan allen, super man sack against atm, you can not coach the brute power of the d. line knocking boutte flat on his arse.
You look at lsu, bama, ohio st etc and their n.c. runs, they had a lot of n.f.l. talent. John chavis was genius with brocker, Montgomery, logan, mingo. tm7, Claiborne, reid,. His arse just got dominated by miss st. w/o them.
Urban meyer was a genius with tebow, pounce twins, reggie nelson, Harvin, etc couldn't score with Brantley and debose. he turned out to be a genius again with J.t. Barrett, Elliot, miller, bosa, etc.
Give me someone who is going to bring in the talent to compare with bama and hire the right coordinators to handle the scheme/strategy. If That is O, Jimbo, Fleck, Herman, kelly I don't care. that is what is going to be needed to compete with bama and improve where we are. To under value recruiting is naïve.

you do love to cherry pick don't ya?

it is the most important thing in CFB imo. Really any sport, getting talent. I know this isn't what you were commenting on per se, but I do think people overall O due to his recruiting. He's a great recruiter, but there are others. LSU recruited some great classes and DL long before he go here.

so thats why that guy in New England keeps winning every year.. pretty sure everyone in the NFL is equally talented.. i think its more along the lines of 50/50 the higher level you get. high school yeah. 80/20 players all day.. small schools 70/30 SEC 60/40 NFL 50/50

Uhhh, no they are not.
And it's more about just talent in the NFL. It's coaching, player utilization, schemes, etc. They have a lot more time to prepare and study film.

Yep, it's also why he was fired at Cleveland. It's why nick saban would have been fired at Miami.
It's not like New England hasn't had talent since he's been there. Mcginnis is hall of famer, Brady will be a hall of famer, Rob Gronkowski, probably a Hall of famer, Adam Vinitari, future hall of famer, Randy Moss if not a hall of famer one of the best wr's of all time, Mike Vrable, potential hall of famer, Vince Wilfork, one of the best nose tackles to play, Richard Seymoure, one of the best d.t's in his era, Tedy Bruschi potential hall of famer, Wes Welker, one of the top wr's of his era. Jamie Collins all pro.
there's more, I could go on. It's not to say he's not a great coach. He is. However, most great coaches have the best talent as well. Ditka won a super bowl and was fired twice. How did he win the superbowl, one of the most talented teams of his era. dent, perry, Mike s, Mcman, walter peyton.
It's ok, everyone has their opinion. You believe it's more coaching than talent, I believe it's more talent than coaching.

at this point its pretty clear youre just throwing as many names out there as possible so you can come back and say you were right if one of them hits. off the top of my head youve brought up herman, fisher, briles, gundy, morris, rhule, and now kiffin.
PHIL BENNETT
JUNE JONES
CHAD MORRIS

quote:oh, now records dont matter? youve said a hundred times that orgeron shouldnt get the job because of ole miss but now all of a sudden records dont matter.
The other is Chad Morris, I don't care what his record is at SMU...
quote:neither of those things are true. they were very average under june jones and now theyre very average under morris. in fact if anyone here inherited a "dumpster fire" it was jones. he had to follow phil bennett who went 18-51. at least jones had a winning record in conference
they were a dumpster fire when he got there, and he is turning it around
PHIL BENNETT
JUNE JONES
CHAD MORRIS
