I think the defense takes a hit without him, short of maybe a small list of coordinators that may or may not be available and that we may or may not have a chance to get. Our defense improved tremendously in one year with him and as the season went on, short of the last game.

Well, this may be the dumbest shite I've read on this board in a while, and that is really impressive considering what's been going on.

Well done.

I agree and don't want him to ever leave but I just don't think Texas is a threat. He seems smarter than to jump ship, one that he is getting plenty of recognition with, and go to coach at a place that is a dumpster fire

Dave Aranda is the best DC in the country. This is his FIRST season installing a completely new scheme. Next year our defense will be nasty even with all the players we're losing.

You're comparing the guy who took over the defense Aranda put built over a three year span with the first year of Aranda completely overhauling and installing a new system?

Is this real life?

this is false. Our db's haven't had much of a change...have they? you are DBU so tell me what changes have been made to the back end of our defense?

Not so clear when looking at comparisons to last year.

Total defense
A 2016-#7 2015-#2 Dropped 5
B 2016-#12 2015-#25 Improved 13

Scoring defense
A 2016-#3 2015-#1 Dropped 2
B 2016-#7 2015-#41 Improved 34

Rush defense
A 2016-#3 2015-#4 Improved 1
B 2016-#17 2015-#17 No Change

Pass Eff defense
A 2016-#5 2015-#2 Dropped 3
B 2016-#18 2015-#51 Improved 33

Sacks
A 2016-#28 2015-#60 Improved 32
B 2016-#29 2015-#18 Dropped 11

TFL
A 2016-#75 2015-#78 Dropped 3
B 2016-#51 2015-#60 Dropped 9

TO gained
A 2016-#8 25 total 2016-#59 21 total Improved 51
B 2016-#88 16 total 2015-#91 17 total Dropped 3

Add in the fact that Coach A is coaching a team the Coach B coached last year and that the last three stats are based on cumulative number which include an extra game for Coach A and vs an absent cupcake game for coach B.

I think that indicates coach B may be the better coach, the fact is it takes at least 2 years to really evaluate the totality of a coach and probably more like 5 or 6 sicne recruiting comes into play.

I have never once said Aranda wasn't the better coach. Only that if he leaves it doesn't mean we all of a sudden suck defensively...just look at Wisconsin

This OP author needs to be shot as both defenses are a result of the same coach.

I'm sure the binder has the Wisconsin DC listed on it's three deep of staff projections. Not Justin Wilcox, just Wisconsin defensive coordinator.

I nether said nor intended to imply that you did, I was just answering your question by suggesting more data indicates it is Coach B. Is coach B Aranda? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Only really an issue of the new DC implements a system that is substantially different and requires somewhat different types of players. I would expect those types of DC's to be eliminated as candidates fairly early when looking.

I think LSU would be very attractive to any great DC's. Not only with $ but talent.

Maybe Aranda is so good that his old team is still good a year after he left.

That happens all the time.

It is very impressive.......You see the system in place and run at Wisconsin is his.....with his players that he recruited with his defensive staff.

The only thing that changed is he left and they carried it on.

On the other hand LSU's numbers are a result of new implementation.

So yes Dave Aranda further proves his value by showing he can teach others to carry out his vision and also create new ones with different personnel.

The difference in talent between LSU and Wisconsin is pretty large so the new DC must still be coaching his arse off.

aranda's Ds build upon themselves each year, yes we have a ton of talent but it was also a major transition considering most of our recruiting over close to a decade has been centered around a different philosophy....what aranda did this year was pretty damn amazing.

The comparison is insanely stupid, but most O supporters provide extremely shallow arguments.
