Dabo has never had to deal with significant coaching losses (unless you count Chad Morris, which was significant in his won ways...), and now it looks like he's about to lose both coordinators. We'll see how he replaces them.

quote:

ESPN's Chris Low and Adam Rittenberg report that Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott has emerged as the leading choice to take the helm at Virginia.

Elliott met with Virginia athletic director Carla Williams on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Andrea Adelson. He also reportedly had a meeting with Duke this week to discuss the Blue Devils' opening for a head coach.

Virginia has already dealt with a rejection, as Penn State co-defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter told ESPN he's no longer a candidate to become the Cavaliers' next head coach. Poindexter, who is a former assistant at Virginia, played for the Cavaliers and was an All-American safety.

Damn. Will be interesting to see how they do going forward. Clemson always seemed to rely on their assistants more than others

Dabo will hire good assistants. Elliott and Scott were left overs from Chad Morris’ staff. I think the fan base is excited about potentially new blood coming into the program.

He’ll probably promote some defensive coach on the staff

Dabo has had good luck, though, hiring from within. He seems like he likes continuity, but yes, their offense was garbage this year.

But that was mainly due to a dogshit OLine and an overhyped QB, who's simply isn't that good.

That's the problem with the CEO model. It works if you have a guy like Venables stay awhile. I seem to remember Bobby Bowden had the continuity problem toward the end. SFP was beating on this when O was hired and he was right.

Put this on the coaching changes board. It’s fine here too but it will be appreciated there

Dabo is screwed. He’s a redneck Ed O with more luck and a little higher IQ. He lives and dies by assistants and recruiting hits, but in the age of NIL I don’t know if Newspring Church can compete with organizations like Horns with Heart.

I think this is addition by subtraction for Clemson.

Their OC ran an offense that would make Les Miles shake his head

Elliot has an amazing story, and he's extremely loyal to Dabo. I'm sure he has Dabo's unreserved blessing to take the job if he's doing it.

And I think Dabo knows it, too. That's why he's so against it. Having a school in the a tiny town in the middle of nowhere SCar, with another in state P5 school, is not going to bode well for that program going forward if NIL is not curbed in some fashion.

The 2 big Texas schools are going to dominate that area and everyone else is just going to be trying to play catch up.

If the CEO model won't work in college, it damn sure won't work in the NFL.

That league is all about scheme and tactics and finding that extra 1% edge over your opponent. And Dabo isn't that.

He's a recruiter and organizer and a used car salesman., but, then again, the Raiders are the Raiders, so you can't predict anything they'll do.

Derek Carr is also a big Bible Belt-esque mega church religious guy, and so is Dabo. So I don't put it out of the question.

If they do hire him, Dabo will get eaten alive in the NFL. He'll make Urban look like Jimmy Johnson.

Dabo is friends with Davis and has been to a few games last couple years, likely wasn't anything but the timing was funny as Clemson burns he's on Raiders sideline with owner.

Dabo was in Vegas with CJ Spiller to be inducted in the CF Hall of Fame. Also the Raiders have four Clemson players and Hunter Renfrow is his son’s best friend.
