I don't think the report that #USC has parted ways with DC Clancy Pendergast is accurate. I was told a bit ago by a source that Pendergast and Helton spoke in the past 24 hours and there wasn't talk of a DC change.

ETA: I also just learned that Bob Shoop was the captain of the Yale baseball team in 1988.

Les already had the opportunity to hire Pendergast when Chavis bolted. He was my preference of the short list of candidates. Les ended up going with Steele, due to Pendergast's unfamiliarity with the SEC and recruiting in the South.
FWIW, Pendergast was one of the original pioneers of tweaking and modifying the Tampa 2 defense to help stop the West Coast Spread offenses that dominated the early 2000s. He's a sharp defensive mind and a he'll of a coach when he has the right personnel.

He was elite at Vanderbilt and Penn State...then sucked at UT...then back to elite again at MSU.

I've always been under the impression that Les wanted Aranda in 2015, but Alleva wanted that "Les Miles clause" in new contracts and Aranda wasn't going for it.

Yeah this is what happened. Don’t think Pendergast was ever a real candidate although he was a hot name on this board for sure.
That part shows you how much of a disaster our athletic department was and still is.
