No real surprise. He should do well there.
Per Pete Thamel
Source: Charlie Strong expected to be next coach at South Florida. Sides closing in on a 5-year contract.

As far as fit and potential, it's the best hire of the last month. If he can recruit Florida, which he will, then he should have consistent success.

Charlie should have done better at Texas. Maybe he just can't do it at a big-time school. He's a good guy though, and I wish him well at USF.

He's also better off where there will be some patience for him to build a program.

Great move by USF. He will do well there and won't have to rebuild from scratch like UT. I think Charie will be at another big P5 school in 3-4 years.

No confirmation from USF yet; but I'm satisfied with the hire. Next year should have been Taggarts best team so Strong is coming into a solid situation. Taggart had strong local ties that Strong can hopefully step right into. Need someone to add a bit of toughness to the defense.

Strong would be a very good hire. He never had administrative support at texas. Good hire.

Man I would have taken at least a year of money for nothing.

Austin isn't Austin anymore. They have to recruit against Texas AM and TCU both being in competitive conferences, as well as Houston catching fire. Far from only school in Texas anymore. OSU, LSU, and Bama poach their recruits as well. This will continue to happen until Herman wins with 3 and 4 stars.

Les and Lane must be butchering these interviews

Lane's ex-brother-in-law (Layla's brother) coaches at USF (Taggert's staff) and the USF AD was at UCLA when Lane was HC at USC. Fair to say USF has some knowledge about Lane.

He wasn't a politician in a very political job
He was Ned stark when Texas needs a tyrion
