Are there any young ex LSU guys coaches that fit that mold in upcpming years??

I know Brian Sparacino is coaching at Tara HS these days...any other ex players at least coaching?

nice....I watched the clip of the Saban's when they got to BAMA and the Mrs. saying "Huizinga didn't want to let us go" with a giddy excitement. How much did he supposedly give her, like 500K? I use to respect her; I wonder how she is feeling now.
and the new coach can do better than Santa Maria...like the gated estates on the back of River Bend where Tyrus Thomas just bought.

I think Michigan will name a Coach before Thanksgiving and Carr has a lot of input.

I hope so, but just don't see it happening.
Look out for silence. Silence is bad news for LSU.

Everyone keeps talking about DelRio but he is poised to go to the playoffs -- but there is another great player's coach in the NFL who may be available...
John Fox
He has taken his team to the Super Bowl and to 2 NFC championships but due to injuries has had a less than stellar season this year at 4-5... and has not won a home game in a year so there is specualtion he will not be back after 2007 (wikipedia) he has been there done that in the NFL and would be a perfect fit for LSU LONG TERM...
Plus since he is not going to the playoffs, he could hit the ground running!

miles has never hidden the fact that michigan was his dream job. he could end all of the rumors if he would come out and say that he wasnt interested, but he hasnt. if he gets the offer, he goes. what makes things interesting is that Carr doesnt like miles, but the powers that be do. the only thing Carr controls now is the timing of his announcement, and his timing is intentional. by announcing early, he has forced the hand of both LSU and UM. UM cant afford to wait until Jan 7 to hire a coach, and LSU will need a definite commitment from miles before then. unfortunately, miles will have to commit to UM before the NC game, and i think LSU will name pelini interim.
delrio would be awesome, but has he ever expressed interest. other than coaching in NO and his daughter, what are his ties to LSU.
gruden would also be awesome, and my first choice. i dont think he leaves TB now that they have starting winning. i seem to remember his name coming up when $aban left. he was asked about it in a press conference and he laughed at the possibility.
Spurrier would be the third choice, and i think we could get him for sure. i just dont see him happy with mediocrity for the rest of his life. toss in a fat contract and year round golf, and its a done deal.

What makes anyone think someone who has not coached in college, at least not as a head coach, is going to leave the NFL for a college job?

Terry Saban still has a lot of friends here and football wives tend to stick together. Mrs. DelRio is from New Orleans and has a daughter at LSU -- Baton Rogue real estate is a good investment right now so it would make sense for them to own property here -- pre 2005 they would have been looking in New Orleans --

I agree...I feel if Saban hadn't dragged out leaving he would have come instead of Miles. Everything happens for a reason.
The interim thing makes sense and I don't see as necessarily bad, but I don't see Miles leaving before a MNC, now if we don't make it that is a different story.

Thinking about who is the best available out there, this makes sense -- if the owners and the coach see an inevitable parting, the owners would probably clear him to talk early and this would create a no distraction situation for LSU -- plus it would be attractive to have a coach who is not looking for the next job --

Since everyone has an opinion on the situation, who do you all predict would fill the vacancy at LSU? Not so much a dream candidate but common sense, money, availability, etc. Not "a book it," just a gut prediction today.

The list I saw in the Detroit Free Press with Miles on top indicates to me that Miles has everything they're looking for.
Ferentz has struggled mightily the past two years at Iowa in the Big Ten.
Tedford has Cal on the verge of a collapse after peaking at #2.
Harbaugh not enough experience in a major conference.
Coordinators at Michigan currently probably both need to go. English will be their minority interview.
NFL guys are tough to read and how they would translate back to the college game.
Miles has the NFL experience, success at two BCS schools in two different conferences who grew up in the Big Ten. He learned to adapt to both conferences and beat Oklahoma twice when they were loaded both times.
