Can't believe Tom Herman is still at Houston and not at an SEC school

First LSU screwed up and now UGA. Houston couldn't keep the man if they tried. He has a year's experience as a head coach apart from being a proven offensive genius, but Smart, who has only been an assistant coach all his life was somehow a better candidate for the Georgia HC position? Is it because of the emphasis on defense in the SEC?

I agree, I think LSU screwed the pooch on this one. They should have fired Miles after the Ole Miss game, named O as interim and went after Herman. I do believe he is going to be great.

I don't blame him for not leaving UH.

Obviously that's not the case. He can make $3 mill at Houston without the ridiculous expectations that come with the LSU and UGA jobs. You realize that fans at those schools would want him gone after 2-3 years if he didn't win AT LEST 10 regular season games in the most competitive conference in the country

Eventually people are going to realize that the college football world has changed. A coach doesn't have to go to a "powerhouse" to make a ton of money. USC, Texas, Florida all have made "underwhelming" hires recently.

You have a better quality of life making $3 mill at Houston than you do making a bit more at an SEC school where the boosters and fanbase want you gone after every loss

I would have been thrilled with Herman, but hunk Kirby is likely better at GA given his recruiting ties to the state and the southeast. I think he will lock down the state far more than right ever did and Herman likely ever could.

He'll get the UT job next year.

Herman saw how hard it is to win in the SEC and said no thanks I'll keep winning 10 games here and wait for Ohio St., FSU, Notre Dame, Texas, or a non-dumpster fire power program to open up.

Anyone and everyone in the know around him said he's waiting out Charlie strong and the Texas gig.

Why not make 3 million next year with 20 starters back off a 12-1 team, then when strong gets canned slide over?

He's coached all over Texas and got his masters at UT and was a grad assistant.

Perfect fit

believe he and mullen were next on our list after jimbo. don't think we'd have waited for kelly even though he would have been a HR.

Yep. See Gary Patterson and Chris Petersen (for a while anyway).

And really, unless you're married to Imelda Marcos or have a gambling problem, what's the difference between making $3 million a year at Houston or $5 million a year at Georgia? That's enough money to take care of all your family's needs.

There's some merit to this, but only in that he can wait it out longer. Kinda like Kirby Smart chilling as a DC for years and years and now he gets a top 8 job?

I think people are too far ahead of themselves on the Herman train. I'm a HUGE Herman fan. I think he's the next star coach, but if you are the AD of a multi-million $$$ Athletic Department, how do you sell this guy to the mass audience who won't know him from Adam?

I'm not saying you hire to that end, but I am saying, it's a much tougher sell to the mainstream audience to say, "We hired Houston's HC and he's been a HC for one year."

I think Herman is smart to just mensa smart but money smart. Add another year of head coaching to his resume and another year of success his value will increase.

It might be because he has a conference championship this weekend.

Some of you are getting a little too excited about a guy with one whole year of HC experience.
