How does Oklahoma St have the #3 defense in the country in yards allowed, if this is a talent issue?

It's just not possible to have an elite D at OU except here or there.

Last year OSU was 33 in ypp. WV was 7 in 2020. This year they're 60.

So you admit that we don't actually *know* that his defenses would be better at LSU, it's only speculation, right?

You're hilarious.

Everything is speculation. We don't KNOW anything, including how Saban or Jimbo would fare if they came back to Baton Rouge.

I just want one person to address Riley's defenses. It's like pulling teeth.

Riley's recruiting classes are dominated by the offensive side of the ball. OK is not going to produce a bunch of elite def recruits, so Riley has to rely on out of state recruits. It's tough to sell the Big 12 to def elites when they can go play with the best of the best in the SEC.

Recruiting the defensive side of the ball is an issue throughout the Big 12. UT struggles with it too, and they are the Flagship in a state full of elite talent.

Riley would not have this issue at LSU.

Ok, were going in circles here. It's pointless to argue against unprovable assertions.

We don't have any way of knowing that it's "not possible" to have an elite defense at OU. All we know for a fact is that he hasn't had one. To me that's a valid concern.

If he were the coach there, I'd root him on and hope for the best. We're not on opposite sides here, just pointing out that every coach brings possible drawbacks with him.

Sustained success at a Power 5 school. Few of the other candidates can meet that.

Dave Aranda's defense at Baylor, with lesser talent, has been better than OU's. Oklahoma St has the #3 defense in the country, with lesser talent.

May be due to Okie St not playing any good offenses yet? Let’s see how they do vs Riley in a few weeks

He’s a young, proven head coach who not only has had sustained success at a major program, but is also one of the best offensive minds in college football.

I don’t get it. Struggles against the nobodies of CFB constantly and never can field a defense.

We all know that nothing of substance can be won in the SEC without a defense.

For years he has been unable to hire a decent DC because all the good ones don't want to get short changed and then inevitably blamed for bad defense.

He's proven in the weak arse Big 12. In the SEC, Riley is a middle of the road head coach if that.

He turned Jalen Hurd into a Heisman candidate and a mediocre NFL QB. Any miracle bigger than that involves water and wine.

Heisman quarterbacks and top 10 offenses every year.

That's only because he intentionally runs the score up to pad his QB's numbers on the second-rate competition he plays in the second-rate Big 12.

In the SEC, he will no longer be able to run the scores up intentionally to pad his QB's numbers. Hence, his days of being known as QB whisperer will be over.

In the Big 12 where he can intentionally run up the scores to pad his QB's numbers. In the SEC, he won't be able to do that anymore. Which means his days of being known as a QB whisperer will be over

Riley did not rebuild squat....at best he did a tune up.

They hadn’t won the Conference outright in 4 years. There offense was 21 and 40th in scoring the 2 years before he got there.

OU had a good offense but was falling behind.

They haven’t lost the conference since Riley got there. They haven’t had a scoring offense ranked lower than 6th since he got there.

You clearly don’t know shite

Our fanbase is pretty ignorant when it comes to any football program outside of a 60 mile radius of Baton Rouge. Hence the love for Napier.

2020 vs UF: 55-20, 684 yds, 3 Passing TDs
2019 vs LSU: 28-63, 217 passing by Hurts. HURTS!
2018 vs Bama: 34-45, 471 yds, 2 passing TDs
2017 vs UGA in 2OT: 48-54, 531 yds, 2 passing TDs

True and the first 3 had to transfer in Spencer Rattler was his guy he recruited and coached look at him now. Yes Caleb is playing a little better but no one in the conference expected a running QB and they still struggle, Kansas had them on the ropes we all know Kansas sucks.
