The reality is that this hire whoever it is will probably cost us Ed Orgeron unless he decides to swallow his pride.

So the real question is can Tom Herman make the same splash that a National Championship coach who has developed multiple 1st round QBs and players can.

Im not sure Herman can pull the Akers, Wilsons, or flip a Moses.

Jimbo has in roads with tons of top talent and the schools they are from. Herman could maybe develop that but besides one DT commit he got bc his brother played for Houston I just dont think he can keep the excitement going like Jimbo can.

I would say so. He was already doing a good job at Houston even though they are not in a power five conference. I was actually shocked when they got that DT to commit to them. That showed me that Herman is a great recruiter. If he can get a talent like that to go to Houston, image the talent he could get at LSU in the SEC, where he is the only top school in the state.

I'd say theres about an 85% chance he can, 80% chance he can't.

Don't know. He had little or no pressure at Houston. Can he handle the pressure and expectations at a major football school? Can he recruit? Is he just an x and o guy? Can he get the team to buy in? Will he fit in at LSU? I think the less tangible things favor Jimbo since he's done it on the big stage. We only think and hope Herman can make the jump.

This is one of my concerns with Herman.

With Jimbo, you know we're going to be reeling in top 3 classes every year.

Is Herman going to be able to recruit to that level? We really don't know, and that's a risk. McElwain is an offensive minded coach that did well at a smaller school, but can't seem to recruit at an elite level at Florida (just look at their current class).

Im not sure I would want to take a gamble with Herman who is a wildcard with his real recruiting ability over a proven top 5 recruiter in Jimbo who is a great developer of talent at the QB position and offense as a whole.

To be perfectly honest what to say LSU gets Herman then for some reason Texas doesnt fire Strong that they go after him and he takes his dream job a few years from now.

I cant see Jimbo leaving for another job at his age if he chooses to leave FSU for LSU. More stability.

There have been very few people associated with LSU that people have called bad recruiters (Mike Archer is one of the few). LSU is not that hard to recruit players too. Tiger Stadium...SEC...no big in-state rival...send the most players to the pros... LSU has a lot going for it before recruits even meet the coach.

To say Tom Herman was a big time recruiter at Ohio State is a falsehood. The head coach was Urban Meyer and I cant see this great recruiting class Herman has gotten at Houston bc it doesnt exist.

Ed Oliver
Had Tyrie Cleveland committed
Was considered the favorite for Klavon Chaisson

These are not normal UH recruits. Even being in the discussion for players like this suggests he's a top flight recruiter.

If he does well enough for other teams to want him, then its a successful hire.

Well, I assume he recruited some of the players that helped kick Louisville and Oklahoma's arse, so he probably has a good eye for talent.
