There's been chatter for months that former Saints coach Sean Payton and Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady would like to work together, and a Tuesday report by Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio appears to point to New Orleans as the most likely opportunity for that to happen.

Florio writes that Brady's future remains an unknown, but he says that the "growing school of thinking in league circles" is that Payton, if he coaches in 2023, will return to the Saints.

One well-connected source told Florio that Payton's potential return to New Orleans is the league's "worst-kept secret."

This buzz is solely created by his agent establishing leverage for contract negotiations with the team he ultimately signs with

There is there is a 0% chance Sean Payton is going back to the saints.

I don’t see why Sean Payton would fake retire to get out of New Orleans to ultimately return to New Orleans.. but I definitely wouldn’t complain

Because he needed a year off and there’s no way to do that in the NFL…

This is BS. And backstabbing DA would not go over well in the media or coaching community.

Now, it does present an interesting question. What if Payton comes out and says he wants to come back to the Saints, are we obligated to hire/pay him? Our whole argument for wanting compensation if he goes elsewhere is that he has under contract with us. Seems like if we didn’t take him back, we would be violating the contract. SP could be setting up just that ploy.

Why would the GOAT want to live anywhere in the New Orleans area?

That is probably the only job he has been offered.

The rumor has been since before the season that Sean wanted to step away for a year to see if that was what he wanted to do. DA would step up and whole staff basically stayed intact. Saints still had his rights and he could just come back, stay gone or find another team. Should he go elsewhere the Saints were owed compensation until his deal ran out.

He is already in demand not sure what this would accomplish from an agent stand point.
