Wasn't that long ago he was being praised for benching Ovechkin....

He'll be coaching again by the end of the season.

Long time coming. Should have been done after Montreal two years ago. Thanks for bringing the young talent along and getting the team in the right direction.

Did well in the regular season, but choked when it mattered. It'll be interesting to see how Dale Hunter does.

The new coach better get Backstrom's head on straight.

He's killing my fantasy team.

I picked he and Datsyuk 1 & 2. At least Datsyuk finally woke up.

Dale Hunter is my favorite player ever. In fact, I own a Dale Hunter Caps jersey -- which I still wear when I go up for games.

So I'm megapumped. My favorite player ever just got named coach of the Caps! Bruce is a great builder and I think most Caps fans are thankful for what he has done, but it was time for him to go. He should've gotten the boot after last postseason. I was willing to spot him the Habs series, which really was awful luck. But the Bolts series was unforgiveable. He got outcoached.

I'm very excited for Dale, I didn't realize all of his coaching experience was in the juniors, but it looks like he was killing it up there and he is just what this team needs. SO much talent, so little fire.

Dale is the only player in NHL history with 1000 points and 3000 penalty minutes. That's the kind of guy you want coaching your team -- someone who could actually play but took no shite from anyone, ever. He was a tough, tough player who also could score and create. He's one of the most intense human beings to ever wield a hockey stick.

He was born to coach, I think. I could not be more excited by this move.

Dale Hunter own the London Knights OHL team, a consistent winner, he has pretty much coached the Ducks main players...

Ovie is NOT going to like Dale's coaching style.

I liked boudreau but he just didn't get it done when he needed to. Too much line up switching lately. Sad to see all the players revolt. Plus anyone who keeps Jeff schultz on his team should be fired.

whoah - dale hunter?

Bruce Boudreau wasn't that bad (I know I hammered the guy in the past) but is this a case of firing someone without having a backup plan?

I think it might be...if you look at Beantown's turn around i thought the same thing was possible for the Caps...I just think Dale having grown used to owning and coaching his players in London is gonna have the players for 15-20 games and if they don't get rolling this is gonna suck for Caps fans...

You're right.

I can remember one season a long time ago when the dean of NHL coaches had been with his team for 1 1/2 seasons.

In 1989, the Rangers fired Michel Bergeron at the end of the regular season, right before the first round playoff series against the Penguins.

Bruce wasn't that bad, but he was obsessed with line swapping. Just let units get some rhythm. He was always playing with the lines, when really, there shouldn't be that much tinkering to do, especially when he found gold with the Laich-Ward-Chimera third line.

Schultz is only starting because of injuries. He's the team's 7th d-man. Whatever. I'm more pissed that he broke up Carlson-Alzner. Keep the top pairing together, and let Green lay with Orlov or Erskine.
