Which coach would you fire? Can't hire 2 without another leaving.

Haley has been a DC before and is respected around the league.

Orgeron has never been a DC and other coaches tell stories about him like he functions below the required reading level. Orgeron is an effective bagman, he doesn't need to touch anything with more responsibility than that. You all already have Frank Wilson, you don't need another "ace" Louisiana recruiter. I'm not sure what Ed brings to your staff at all.

He brings a lock and key to the gate of Louisiana that Alabama has been walking through pretty easily the last few years. I exaggerate, but he would be a huge help to Wilson in this regard.

You and I have gone head to head on how much recruiting Chavis did while here. I think fighting off Bama for LA talent, which is becoming increasingly critical here at LSU, could play a role in why people closer to the program share the impressions of him as a "disinterested" recruiter. I can't think of a single guy he has pulled in a head to head with them. LSU has to up its game, especially with such a huge in state class next year. Orgeron is a big piece of that.

As for Brick, if he shares the same conservative scheme as Chavis but isn't as good at running it, then the fans will turn on Miles completely because of the negative perception of hiring within here at LSU recently. Maybe he has his own ideas that are a little more creative, but no one around here (or probably anywhere else) can remember what Baylor's D looked like from 1999-2001. By the rankings, not so hot, but the talent level probably was a huge inhibitor to success.

We really have to see the results. My concern is that everyone of Miles internal hires have proven to be horrible (malveto, stud) but Brick may be ready and Orgeron a good addition. I prefer a proven coach considering how bad the offense is but this could also make cleaning house next year much easier.

But Haley has at least coordinated a defense before. If Ed got the associate head coach tag (does Frank have that now?), with the idea he becomes RC when Wilson takes a head coaching job - that might do it.

Another problem is that Brick would have to coach the linebackers, based on the current division of responsibility. He's done that before (Houston, Clemson and GA Tech), as well.

Orgeron coached the linebackers at Nicholls for 1 year, but I'm certain he would coach the DL and Haley would slide into Chavis' spot as DC/LB.

No more promoting from within. I don't want to see another co-defensive coordinator shitfan like 08.

At this point if that's what it takes to get BeBe on staff all for it.

This is Alleva's doing.

Alleva is a pawn to the Board of Supervisors. They direct him on what to do.

And, do you really blame them for wanting Miles' ridiculously high paid coaching staff to figure out a way to not lose 3-5 games on their current salaries? None of those guys have earned additional pay raises in the last 3 years. They earned a raise in 2011, and that's it.

thats really not the resume builder you think it is. those Baylor teams were 0-24 in the Big 12. here's the defense

1999 - 420.8 ypg, 37.6 ppg
2000 - 441.4 ypg, 36.1 ppg
2001 - 418.2 ypg, 32.5 ppg

most people have never heard of him, maybe because his lines at LSU have not been very good.

no they dont. if they do, please share one.

he's not a coach but here's mine: Pat Haden, the AD at USC, is a Rhodes Scholar and won 2 NCs as the USC QB, and when he needed to pick an interim HC after firing Kiffin with 8 games left, he didnt chose DC Pendergrast or the OC Clay Helton, he chose Orgeron.

your turn.

I'm not arguing your point - it is valid.

However:

A. We're not hiring a head coach - right now, we're hiring a defensive coordinator/LB coach - and, possibly, a DL coach.

B. Even if we were hiring a head coach, Orgeron's record on his own is atrocious - 10-25 at Ole Miss (3-21 in conference - averaged 1 conference win per year) - yes he was 6-2 at USC in an interim role - and, in fact, he should be applauded for holding together what could easily have turned into a disaster.

He is a great recruiter (if somewhat sketchy - but, heck, our conference doesn't even pretend to be squeaky clean) and has been a successful assistant - but never a DC.

Maybe Hayden didn't want to burden the coordinators with other duties. Who did Hayden hire as HC?

I actually wouldn't mind brick the more I think an it. The players think he could do the job. He's been calling the d on the sidelines for chavis for 6 seasons now. At the worst, the scheme would be the same. You bring in coach O to help and you prob don't see much drop off from chavis being here.

I just don't see brick leaving without it being on his own. Miles is loyal to a fault, but the guy is high character. Brick has a son with autism and has started a foundation here in baton rouge, so I don't see him being forced out.

Seems he left because of a 3 and out offense that kept his defense on the field way too much.
He deserves a lot of credit for saving Miles arse in the wins column.

with the offensive rankings of a miles coach team we will see how important he really was, we're in decline.

i know thats rhetorical so I wont answer, but USCs defense was arguably worse this year than any of the three Orgeron was part of, even though its the first year without sanctions and DT Leonard Williams emerged as a likely top 3 overall pick in the draft
