Why is he not being targeted as a head coach? The guy can flat out coach and recruit with the best. Surely he wants a chance to run a program.

My understanding is that he has been but has rebuffed any overtures and is not actively looking at the current time.

Not everyone wants to be a head coach ... and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Or maybe he’s fine with making over $2 million a year just being a Coordinator.

I think it's a coach in waiting type of thing
Posted on 12/13/19 at 7:39 am to Jdixon
He’s waiting for a Georgia type job like Kirby.

Plus his son is a fr at Clemson now playing LB
Probably will stay at least until his son is done playing

Heard everything under the sun...
- Not a great interviewer
- Likes being a DC
- Waiting for a top level position
- Kids play for him
It is probably a mixture of all of the above.

Dabo is only 50. Hell, Venables himself is 48. He'll be waiting for a long time.

Age has nothing to do with it. When Alabama calls him home, most expect him to go.

I thought this was debunked?

If he actually wanted to be a HC he would’ve been gone years ago. I think he’s content with being a DC

I think he's pretty much said he's not thinking about going anywhere until his son(freshman) leaves Clemson.
And there are a select few coordinators that know that their skill sets are best suited to be a coordinator.

Nope. Dabo is a king in Clemson. He's not leaving

Is that why he has special clauses in his contract that make things easier if Bama were to call.

He’s just one of those guys that enjoys what he does. He doesn’t really care to change scenery and him and Dabo are boys. He and his family like the area also, so I can’t see him leaving for anywhere else. If he didn’t bail for K-State he won’t leave IMO.

Yeah I view him like Bud Foster. Love being a DC and love coaching at their current school.

Look at Bud Foster and Chavis. Both had offers over the years. Some guys just like doing what they do best. I can’t say for sure that this is the case with Venables, but he definitely isn’t in a hurry to become a head man.

I thought for sure he would’ve jumped at his alma mater Kansas St after the old man retired.
