This. I don't think he has to have ties to someone, but I bet he does more background checks/research to prevent another Canada situation

He served as his own DC his first 2 years at Ole Miss so he knows that won't work.

Yeah but E recommended him, and E was always in the room to act as O's eyes and ears. I think that's why he was ok with it.

I don't see him going with someone that he doesn't know or someone that he couldn't appoint one of his friends to supervise.

but Brady wasn't the OC and didn't have control of the other offensive assistants...new DC will want control...my guess is that O has a plan and already had a list of potential candidates before Aranda's name started popping up for the various jobs last month...

Agree. O for sure has a plan in place. Aranda seems like a standup guy and has probably given a heads up to O anyways. Should be short lists to keep the machine running smoothly.

Like I said....His wife is from here. We can pay more. He probably loves Penn State, but when the wife is happy life is happy.

Instead of going out an getting another big name OC, Orgeron promoted a guy he knew and trusted

And then he hired Brady because that didn’t work out.

O needs to go outside his comfort zone and make good hires not just buddy hires.

Just vett then first

Brady is somewhat the anomaly, and a guy that more or less came after the LSU offensive staff met with the Saint's offensive staff. Many of his other hires had a prior history with him.

Meatball was Orgeron's GA at LSU
O was on staff with Tommie Robinson at USC
O was on staff with Cregg at USC and Tenn.
He had a relationship with Joseph through LA ties
He coached with McMahon in New Orleans
Bill Johnson coached O at NWS

Despite clearly having the resources to hire an outside OC after firing Canada, O promoted Ensminger, a guy who was on no one's short list for OC.

Look, I'm not saying O is right or wrong in his hiring rationale. Clearly chemistry on the coaching staff is important. But more often than not when he's made a staff move it is to hire/promote someone he knows well. So it would be a bit out of the ordinary if he brought in someone whom he had zero prior history with.

OK, I'm not Orgeron apologist, but you cannot discount how important loyalty is on a coaching staff. O hiring guys he knows may show that he'd rather have someone he trusts than someone he doesn't know, and I understand that.

Even with Brady, he brought him in, but kept Ensminger as a buffer in case it didn't work out.

Given that's the case I suspect you'll see familiar names with the hires. People he worked with at USC, Ole Miss, who knows, but I don't see him cold calling a guy he doesn't know.

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.

Wisky is notoriously cheap with assistants and he just saw someone else go through LSU DC and get a good Power 5 job in a couple years while making head coaching money

Alma mater stuff is a strong pull, but at some point you’d have to really be crazy not to take it. And if he is, then let him atleast know he has the option

You sure about that? Ed coached with the Saints for a year. His ties there led to even knowing about Brady.
Tommy Robinson, James Cregg, freakin John Robinson are all a part of this program and all have ties to Ed from previous jobs.
If the DC hire is from outside, I promise you, that guy has ties to Ed.
You’re an un observant moron.

Leonhard made $1 million last year. Hardly cheap for a guy with three years coaching experience.
