I’d make Jim Leonard say no first

What are those?

He's from PA so not sure why he would make a lateral move unless it's a money thing.

Pry and Leonard would both be good choices.

It's a shame Rocky Long already has a job. I think he'd kill it in the SEC.

Eta: I was wrong. He doesn't have a job.

He coached in Louisiana in early 2000s and I think he met his wife here....

Brother lives here.

Almost took the ULL job when Napier took it but got a raise.

Make Leonard turn down $2MM/yr. you either get him or make Wisconsin open up their check book.

Charlie Strong? He used to be a good DC.

Randy Shannon?

Venables is the target. He is scarred and will take solace in never having to face an LSU offense again.

Either would be good hires, even if not popular hires.

Leonard, Pry, etc would be top tier.

Or you could tag an interim and hire Muschamp after next year.

Kidding but somebody is going to hire a good DC when he's inevitably fired.

Looking around, there aren't that many up and coming DC's that might be ready for LSU, so they may look at the NFL.

I think you can pretty much book that the new DC (if LSU has to hire one) first and foremost must be a guy that Orgeron knows and trusts. He's NOT going to hire a Matt Canada again...i.e. a guy he did not know at all, but was a "hot" name at the time. He's more or less shown that in most of his coaching hires.

Instead of going out an getting another big name OC, Orgeron promoted a guy he knew and trusted.

His OL coach is a guy he has a history with. Same for the RB coach. Bill Busch was one of the few guys he didn't have a history with, but hiring him was part of the agreement to keep Aranda (and you could argue that was the biggest hire of O's tenure. No Busch = No Burrow)

So when throwing out potential hires, it's probably a good idea to see if O has any connection to them first.

I’m actually scared if Aranda leaves and we higher outside that Reymond would leave at the next DC position I think he wants it.

1.) People have been saying this for like every season since we’ve had Raymond

2.) would you want to hire Raymond? If not then it doesn’t matter if he leaves. Go hire the best coach. LSU likely will never hire him at DC without DC experience so if that’s his goal then he will have to leave at some point.

Good chance Aranda would try to bring Busch with him if he left.

I'm basing this on nothing but it wouldn't surprise me if Clancy Pendergast's name pops up. A lot of O's staff hires have been old friends from the past...Pendergast was the DC with O at USC in 2013. :

This.

He might also be ok with being AHC and DB coach and making $1m a year. You never know.

Not sure this would be a great hire.

quote:

Pendergast spent four seasons in his return to the Trojans, and was fired after a 49–24 loss to Iowa in 2019 Holiday Bowl; in 2019, USC had the 78th-ranked defense and 77th in yardage allowed.[9]

His stock is way down at the moment.

The O has ties thing doesn't have legs. He didn't have any ties to Brady....he recognized he had talent. Early on when he was building it had more importance than it does now.

I'm sure O is able to decipher who can coach defense. It's his team and I'll back him, but I think he can land Pry.

frick Clancy!!!

If Baylor wants Aranda, then LSU should take Phil Snow from Baylor.
