Bold prediction that the DeBoer tenure at Bama will be a repeat of the Hardin tenure at Auburn.

no way. Bama with a bad coach will still win 8-10 games a year right now. You don't fall from a sustained top program overnight. It takes years.

They still have more talent than 99% of other teams. So a dog could coach that team to 8 wins next year. Any decent coach can probably get 9 or 10.

But they could drop off over the next 5 years if they can't keep up with recruiting.

After the dynasty Saban built, don’t you think 8-10 wins a season could quickly go downhill and turn into 5-6?

It takes years to build a program of any kind in any field, but it only takes a short time to watch it slip through your fingers.

Bryan Harsin coached at a Group of 5 school before being hired by Auburn.

The last game Kalen DeBoer coached before accepting the Alabama job was the National Championship Game.

Yeah, they're similar.

As long as it's the bad Auburn I'll allow it.

Bill Curry was atrocious at Ga Tech and Kentucky. Yet he won the SEC at Bama.

Gene Stallings was terrible at A&M, yet won a national title at Bama.

Mike DuBose is one of the worst head coaches in SEC history. Yet he won the SEC at Bama.

Mike Shula was an imbecile, yet won 10 games in 2005.

The Alabama job is the definition of “idiot proof.” DeBoer is being handed the keys to program with arguably the best roster in the country. If he’s just mildly competent, which it sure seems like he is, he’ll be a success in Tuscaloosa.

I don’t think Bama drops off big time but it can happen.

People forget that Harsin was slowly letting the level slip a little at Boise before Auburn got desperate after some nos and hired him. DeBoer is a better coach with a better record at places where pure coaching and development matter.

DeBoer’s floor isn’t a low as some of you want it to be. He won’t hit Bama’s ceiling unless he can become a much better recruiter than he’s shown to this point, but that’s not impossible with the right staff and a flexible mindset.

You have a point there; but do you think he can immediately keep the program running at the same efficiency and productivity (wins) as Saban?

I have a suspicion that the first person to follow Saban (no matter who it is) will be the sacrificial lamb to help everyone move past having one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game. DeBoer will usher in the crash back to reality and then Alabama will hire the person that lasts a while (maybe).

Even bolder prediction, lsu fans will still be obsessed with Bama with all of the trauma they have had to endure.

If there is a “crash,” it will probably be to some 9 or 10 win seasons rather than 11+. Or will depend on recruiting and what he does on the defensive side, because he’s likely going to have a dynamic offense.

These stupid troll threads belong on the SEC Rant, not the coaching changes board.

Depends on how many players go into the portal.

Bama hired 2020 Coach O - DeBoer owes his last 2 years to having a first round super senior signal caller and WR, sound familiar?
