quote:hardly...college guys find kids in podunk towns all over where they have no social media "marketing" it's way over rated. per several college coaches I talk to all the time, if the kid can play they will most certainly find them.
Part of a high school coach’s job to get the film out there and the college coaches on campus for kids that might want to play college. For example the old coach had a combine in the summer with college scouts invited, put the film on social media, built in-state connections with FCS schools, etc. That all went away except for the 2 5 stars Emory Jones and Sampson who would get coverage regardless

It’s not just the recruiting aspect. A lot of people were expecting the same type of stuff because it helps the student athlete AND the catholic high football program by being a leader of visibility on social media and in the surrounding communities.
Onward. Congrats to coach Simoneaux and thank you for your service.

Now that it’s official, I will throw out that while I think it’s a “good hire” for central (what that means is totally subjective), In talking with both coaching friends and student athletes parents at Catholic, they were not disappointed to see him leave at all. They didn’t appreciate his mentality and philosophy overall. Probably one of the reasons for their relative underperformance this year (yes they had the second most talented roster in sweet this year behind Karr). They should have won state again. Their next coach will likely be someone with more recruiting skins on the wall and a better “fit” to the Catholic high culture.
As for central, you’ll find out very quickly where your school system is willing to go. They wont allow students in from outside their borders and actively seek to keep “lower income families” from moving in. Coach Simoneaux has been at a small private school in a small community with mostly legacy players and at Catholic where recruiting doesn’t have to happen. He’ll be challenged at central for certain if the talent gap continues in the trend that it currently sits in. That’s a big gamble for $100k + that is continually being spoken of. Centrals eyes are probably a little too big for their stomach, but that’s been the case for quite some time.

One of the funniest things I’ve read on this board in quite sometime.

But go 6-4 and win round 1 every other year and he should have a job for life

Little ol' catholic br kids weren't getting exposure while on the tape of 2 huge recruits at a giant 5a school that played Karr, u high, st Thomas more, Warren Easton, John Curtis, etc. lol.

I know the truth isn’t always friendly, but they don’t have to actively recruit. They have some of, if not the best academics in the state and the athletics sell themselves. Families choose to send their kids there. If this is painful to hear perhaps you should open your horizons a little wider than where they currently are.

The last coach there only missed the playoffs 2 times and went to the semifinals, quarter finals multiple times and the second round multiple times in 15 years as the head coach. Along with 6 district championships I believe. So, obviously that won’t be quite good enough, particularly for $100+k per year.

Was an easier district though

They added Catholic. He had a 6-2 record against them. Overall winning record against scotlandville and until recently, winning record vs Zachary. I don’t see Simoneaux dominating this district as it stands with the current level of natural talent at central, do you?

He won’t. Simoneaux has to play CALLLLICCCHIGHHHHHH, not the old Catholic before 2015 that Sid was up against. He has to play the (still) kings of 5A Zachary, not the Zachary that was a decade away from a championship. He doesn’t get to play the Livingston teams that used to be free wins for Sid
Strength of your main rivals has to be factored into your expectations

All the more reason to believe they, central, will be left quite disappointed in this seemingly very expensive hire…unless they’re willing to open the recruiting gates

Rumor is Trev Faulk with LCA is interested in the Catholic job and the feeling is mutual with Catholic.

it seem like hs football coaching in BR is just one big circle of dudes just trading jobs with each other?
Felt that way in Nola for a bit.
Played under Songy/Kaiser at BM.
Songy gets fired from BM, replaced by Kaiser.
Songy goes back to Jesuit as asst.
Kaiser gets fired from BM, gets Jesuit job.
Jesuit fires Kaiser, replaced by Songy.
Songy retires, ends up back on BM staff.

That would be a home run hire for Catholic
