That is pretty obvious, isn't it? The QBs simply aren't developing. And I'll say this, Crowton may be "smart" when it comes to designing plays but it is obvious he can't design offensive schemes based on player strengths. Evidenced by how he uses JL/JJ. He uses basically the same scheme. He even lets JL do a read option sometimes. Crowton's play calls can be incredibly predictable too, I think everyone can see that, especially based on personnel groupings. A good OC is someone who can adjust play calling based on player strengths, Crowton does not and has never done this here.
He basically sticks a scheme out and expects a player to learn it. I think this is where a huge problem occurs. That and LSU has no identity on offense with a semi-spread/semi-pro style sets. And they even recruit players to two different styles...Pro and Spread...

Look, I didn't criticize Belowpar. Calm down. I was asking for clarification, thinking that he might provide some. I remember what he said yesterday. I know that things can change. I actually said,
So, I asked if something changed. That was the whole premise of my post. What happened to cause Crowton to come out with a public statement that he thought he was staying. That didn't happen last year.
So, instead of criticizing Belowpar for being wrong or uninformed, I simply asked what was going on. Did something change? Is Crowton out of the loop? Simple stuff like that.
For the record, I know that Belowpar WAS NOT saying that Crowton being gone was a done deal. I know that this is fluid and I know that things change. I was just wondering what initiated Crowton's public comments today and if that meant that his departure was now off the table.

I have no doubt the dude knows what he's doing. I just think he must over complicate things for the QB. That coupled with his trouble in teaching the QB makes fail.

I believe he's just too soft of a coach and needs a hardass on the offensive staff to pick up the slack where he lacks. There is no urgency from the players. Players don't have that "fear" of Crowton getting mad at them if they do something wrong (or in other words the URGENCY and FOCUS to do things right). At the end of the day, Crowton is like their grandpa and they know he's going to be there to nurture them when in actuality they need someone to get in their face and chew their arse out when they don't execute.
All that said, I wish no ill-will on Crowton. He certainly played a huge role in helping us win the 2007 title. But I am of the opinion that it might be time for a fresh start on the offensive side of the ball. A fresh new leader, a fresh new mentality, etc.
I'll leave that up to Miles and Alleva, but the offensive struggles of 2009 and 2010 cannot continue in 2011 no matter who is the OC.

Yeah, you can't do this in college football. You have to adjust to the players you have. Apparently, Crowton can't do that.

Mallory had no idea if he was staying or going in 08. Crowton was positive he was going to be back last year after the bowl game. He seems less sure this time, but it is still early.

Never understood this. Why do players need to be chewed out to learn? Why do players need to "fear" messing up and getting chewed out?

Yes, I did watch it. But the question I asked was how many do they make as compared to us? I didn't say that they never make mistakes.

Just as many. A player knows when he fricks up and doesn't need to be yelled at to be motivated. Would you rather a coach come over and scream at you or put his arm around you and tell you keep your head up?

Personally, a little bit of both. I think there needs to be a happy medium between motivation and yelling at a player.

And as a coach, I can tell you that a player does not always know when they frick up. We use a combination of both methods in our system.

Unless Miles gave him the go-ahead to call. Dismiss rumors, keep the team focused, win the bowl game, replace Crowton.
