Beard sounds like an ideal candidate to enter the Coach Saban Former Head Coach Rehabilitation Program For Former Head Coaches program

Replacing Billy Gillespie at Tarleton State in a few years might be as close as he gets to Kentucky.

I don't think it will be Kentucky, but someone is going to get a hell of a coach. It may take a year of "rehabbing" his image, but he will be back. Think Auburn with Bruce Pearl. I know the circumstances were different, but Pearl's fight with the NCAA and (to a lesser extent) Tennessee was pretty open...as was his show cause suspension. He was seen as a huge cheater. Auburn took the heat for being the first to hire him once he was available and because of it maybe grabbed the best basketball coach in school history. Somewhat the same with Kelvin Sampson. He got TWO schools in trouble with the NCAA. He eventually resurfaced at Houston, turning a completely dead program into a perennial top 5 program.

Whoever hires Beard is going to take a big PR hit. But if they are willing to do so it could be hugely successful. By no means am I saying what Beard did was "right". But I am a bit surprised Texas pulled the plug so quickly as it was very clear his girlfriend was the instigator. Lengthy suspension? Sure. Some sort of anger management rehab? Ok. But I didn't expect them to fire him. And from what it sounds like, the AD didn't want to.

Some of you are dumb. Pearl had a BBQ with recruits. Beard beat his women. Not even in the same Galaxy in today's environment. Beard is a top coach. It will take years before even a mid program will touch him.

Pearl had a damn BBQ. Beard beat the shite out of his fiancé and is facing some pretty serious charges. The two are not even in the same realm.

Some of you are incapable of understanding the context of the comparison. I'm in no way, shape, or form arguing that Pearl's transgressions were equal to what Beard is accused of. What I'm saying is there was a "stain" on Pearl's name at the time Auburn hired him because he had essentially been banned by the NCAA from coaching for a few years for lying to the NCAA. The usual moral police questioned how Auburn could even consider hiring a "convicted" cheater to lead their basketball program. That ridicule hung around Pearl and the program for a bit. But because he has had such great success at Auburn it has mostly been overlooked. No one really talks about Pearl the "cheater" all that often.

Beard's actions, egregious as they may be, had ABSOULTELY NOTHING to do with his professional life. It was domestic/criminal issue in his personal life that became public...a charge that appears unlikely to be prosecuted. I understand why Texas chose to fire him. But that doesn't mean he can't coach. So if a school is willing to live with the initial negative PR that would come with hiring him...just like Auburn had to deal with some negative PR when they hired Pearl (as does any school who hires a coach with prior legal/NCAA transgrestions)...it could pay off with great success on the court.

Or is the opinion that the man should never be allowed to work in his chose profession again because of an arrest that ultimately may not even result in any sort of conviction?

The degree of "stain" matters though. Whoever hired Pearl didn't have to worry about the potential of domestic violence groups outside the athletic department. The moral police questioning Pearl were sports writers, it would not be the same for Beard if he's hired to a big job.

It does because it's a huge mark against him in recruiting.

There is no question there would be some level of protest and backlash. Assuming Beard is never prosecuted for the charges and this is an isolated mistake for which he and his girlfriend reconcile (and it sound like that is what SHE is pushing for) then a school who is willing to take the initial PR hit could reap big time benefits on the court. I'm not saying you hire the guy tomorrow. But time has a way of making people forget about past indiscretions. Auburn just hired a football coach who was ousted because he was allegedly hiring prostitutes. It doesn't offend me because, as a fan, what he does in his personal life doesn't affect me.

Let the recruiting "marketplace" sort that out. If it is a huge mark against him he won't be able to sign great players...which will lead to losing and him being ousted for poor performance. However, I suspect it wouldn't be that big of a deal for 16, 17, 18 basketball recruits.

Whether you think another school should hire him is completely subjective. Your opinion to that end is no better or worse than mine. I just think that if some AD does choose to take a chance on him they are going to rewarded with great results on the court. The guy can flat out coach.
