Chizik's Auburn deal worth about $2 million a year

Gene Chizik will make approximately $2 million a year as Auburn's new football coach, according to someone familiar with his contract. The length of the contract is either five or six years.

Chizik just completed the second year of a six-year contract at Iowa State that paid him approximately $1,100,000 this season. He had a $750,000 buyout.

Tommy Tuberville, who resigned from Auburn on Dec. 3, made $2.8 million in his final year with the Tigers. He received a $5.1 million buyout when he resigned.

You never know, this guy might be a great great hire..

I wouldn't laugh until we see him coach.

5-19 at Iowa state is not the full truth on his ability to coach or be a HC IMHO

What a curious selection this is by the Auburn AD. Chizik's Iowa St team ended the season with 10 straight losses! How does that translate into him getting a better job?

Imagine if he would have won 3 games this year. I think USC would have fired Carroll to get this guy.

What sucks, is that is now the going rate for decent coaches. To get an elite coach, its gonna take $3.5-4 and up form here on out.

The raise comes from the Alabama Athletic Department.

if you're a coach and jimmy sexton isn't your agent you're an idiot. Hell in the SEC West alone this year he's ripped off 2 teams

+100

It is funny because the same people who are bashing Auburn for this hire also thinks Coach Miles sucks although his record at LSU is pretty good.

Yet, Chizik sucks because his record at IOWA STATE is 5-19. Based on their logic, record doesnt mean jack when it involves LSU but when Auburn hires someone with a no so great recrod it does.
