At first glance, I do not believe Herman has a championship-caliber staff

Just my opinion but I don't see any "whoa, nice" assistants he has assembled so far.

Nothing blows me away . Lsu has a better staff being built so far.

Texas fans seem a little apprehensive too. Seen a few comments so far along the lines of "not a good chance all the best recruiters and coaches available were all on Houstons staff." He's also not retaining Traylor who was the best recruiter they had.

Herman is most likely going to either fall flat on his face or massively not live up to expectations.

Everything was much better set up for him at LSU.

Herman might be building a 'loyalty' staff.

As bad as Texas is, he might value having assistants he can trust not to screw him over at every turn.

Sad commentary on UT, IMO.

*ETA - Sad commentary, if true.

He's bringing his guys from Houston positionally, while looking for bigger names at OC and DC.

He would have taken his staff to most places, not a big surprise...

Yeah. I saw that too. I'm not impressed. We might have lucked out. I really wanted Herman, too. But bringing in a high powered staff that can coach and recruit is essential to success. Mack Brown stopped recruiting the big time prospects outside of Texas and he wasn't winning all the in-state battles. If Coach O gets a home run hire at OC, to go along with having one of the best DCs in the country and having a great recruiting staff, Coach O will have LSU in contention to win double digit games per year again.

Just imagine if he had brought "all that" to LSU. People would be spontaneously combusting.

bringing your entire staff to your new school that has way more resources and is desperate to win is pretty fricking weird.

You can't be serious. I read on this board the other night that Herman would take UT to the playoffs next year and then win back to back national championships.
