His defense did great last night against ohio st. They got stops when they needed, and it gave Bama just enough to get a big lead

Bama is begging us to hire Golding. No thank you.

You could also say it's not Reeves defense but it's Clark's. Or is not Freeman's defense it's Fickell's.

There is always something.

4th in the SEC his first season as the DC at MSST. Top 10 in the NATION his second season as Dc at SDSU. Honestly, he has a better resume than Freeman did.

First of all, in 2019, in a real, non-asterisk year, he led San Diego State to the #2 scoring defense in the country.

Then let's talk about his Mississippi State improvement:

In 2019, Mississippi State had the 12th ranked scoring defense in the SEC for SEC games only (so I can compare apples to apples with 2020). In 2020, they had the 6th.

This is with the worst offense in the conference leaving them out to dry constantly, a head coach that doesn't care about defense, and a serious talent depletion from the prior year.

Other conference ranks for them from 2019 > 2020:

Scoring Defense: 12th > 6th
Total Defense: 11th > 4th
Opp 3rd Down %: 10th > 5th
Opp Red Zone %: 10th > 5th
TFL: 11th > 7th

There is a reason they gave him a raise and extension and a reason other schools want him. He's a very good coach.

Arnette did it at 2 different schools under 2 different HCs.

Yes, which is no where near the coast. In fact, landscape wise, it is the complete opposite of the coast.

Serious question from someone who hasn't followed Arnett. Everyone keeps saying he transformed San Diego State in to a top defense but he wasn't DC there until 2018. In 2016 and 2017 they were already ranked relatively high in total defense. I'm not saying the guy isn't a good coach or DC. I just want to know why he is the one responsible for transforming the defense there.

He was on the staff for those and was thought to have a handle on it so well they gave him free reign to call the defense himself and he shined.

Then he turned around a very talent deficient MSU defense in one year that was crippled by a shitty offense and a head coach that hates defense.

Thanks for the info. I knew he was a good lb coach but wasn't as familiar with him as a DC. Seems like he would be a good hire considering he already has SEC experience as well.

He coached at San Diego State, which is on the coast, and is from "the west" just not on the coast.

Moo State is ranked 6th in defense just above us so it isn't much of a step up. Might as well as kept Pelini.

4th.

If you're referring to Points per Game, then yes 6th...which isn't "just above LSU". LSU was 11th. MSU was almost EIGHT points per game better.

And perhaps think about some context.

Even if this were true, how would a nobody like you know it?

The entire purpose to "playing" someone is to keep it a secret, so they don't know they are getting played.

Yet, abellsujr knows all about it. It boggles the mind.

After doing research, you cannot legitimately argue that he shouldn't be among the top candidates for DC.
