today i would pick napier, but that's because i wanna see how aranda finishes the season.
if aranda can finish 9-3 this year i'd prolly pick him.
napier may be going against g5 competition, but he's turned down a few really good p5 offers. he's waiting on a marquee job. confidence for days.
tough decision. think they would both do well here.

Aranda easily has the stronger resume.
Really? He has been a head coach for, what…15 games

and won a national championship
If he won a NC so did every coach on that team. Do we consider all of the 2019 coaches?
Aranda’s defenses were good enough to win games in 2019, but they were nowhere near dominant (and looked downright bad in a few games).
Somebody still needs to explain Aranda’s 2 minute defense in the 2019 Alabama game. That alone brings his coaching chops into question (thus the desire to see a bigger sample size as HC).

These two and Riley are the best possible hires IMO & any one of them probably wins a natty or comes close to it.
Coaches like Riley, Meyers, Fisher, and Dabo ain’t coming, why would they. Even if you somehow convinced them to come they would demand the highest salary in college football and LSU ain’t paying that tight now.

Baylor (even for only 15 games) > USL (by a mile)
Big 12 > Sun Belt (by a mile)
Long time DC at LSU > WR Coach at Bama for 1 year / 1 year as OC for ASU
Any reasonable person would say the resumes aren't even a comparison.

a Great Value Nick Saban tbh.

As a coach, and strictly as "a coach", I like Aranda more. He is both unique and a highly skilled coach (or coordinator if you prefer).
As a head coach, someone running a program, I like Napier more. How to run a program isn't an audit course, cliff notes, or a youtube video. You have to lean from somebody. Being a coach and running a program are two different things with lots of overlap.
And Napier didn't just work for Saban... He worked for Saban for quite a while in a variety of roles. He was one of the "trusted ones" along with Burton Burns. And that is a different, and valuable, level of things right there. He never got shown the door, never got pigeonholed; that means something when you work for Saban.
But what gives Napier the edge, in my opinion, is he didn't just work for Saban in several roles- he was intimately involved with recruiting for Saban as both a coach and on shadow staff at differing times. THAT is why he was one of the "trusted ones".
I ran into Napier at a Neville practice one day. He was currently a "Offensive Quality Control" person. He was there to, and I quote for obvious reasons, "get data on several targets", including Diarse. He probably talked to 20 players that day who "just happened to be standing there" as he talked to the coaches; i.e. he technically never had any bumps. Diarse and several of the other WRs and DBs ran "voluntary drills" "for McCarty" with Napier right there.
The moral of that story is- he knows the recruiting tricks, learned them from Saban (and Burns), knows how to cheat without being caught, and was part of Saban "maximizing his staff"- including shadow staff. That's an edge that matters in deciding a head coach.

Why? The defense is in need of fixing.

I don’t think Riley is coming either, but the point is that he’s the only guy out of that list I would want to see.
As obvious why Urban might come as it is why we wouldn’t hire him. Can’t keep himself out of the paper.

I agree, if you're looking for a head coach Napier has far and away the better resume. Additionally, if you're looking for an offensive minded coach Napier should be your choice.
Now, if you're looking for a defensive coordinator, Aranda is definitely your man.

This board wanted Aranda fired at the beginning of the 19 season when everyone was putting up big numbers on us but Joe was outscoring them...LOL

Napier
He has already proven he can recruit the best talent in Louisiana and he can coach.
