It's a shift pushed by the good ole boys in Louisiana because that's who they want.
This is so goddamn stupid.
Billy Napier may be from Louisiana, but he is the furtherest thing from a “good ole boy” hire and the polar opposite of Ed Orgeron.
The “good ole boys” will hate Napier just like they hated Nick Saban because he will not give them entry or influence.

Advocating for him over Lincoln Riley
Lincoln riley has had stacked arse rosters and gotten his shite pushed in repeatedly when they’ve played a team with a pulse. They also don’t know what defense is in Oklahoma.

you don’t get offered looked at for 5 SEC jobs (and turn them down)
This number keeps going up. Pretty soon, Napier will have turned down all 13 other SEC teams waiting on LSU.

I`m not advocating Napier to LSU but the fact that he didn`t jump at the AU and SC jobs shows how smart he is.
Au has more internal politics going on in their football
program that LSU ever had. SC is a 9-10 win a yr possibility
not probability.Plus BN wants full control of his program.
Thats why I don`t know if he would even take the LSU job.
We have alot of outside influences here also.
I believe we could do alot worse or better if they land
a Riley or Kelly ,Kiffen, peterson etc.

He is from Tennessee, that "good ole "boy" argument holds no merit and is made by people who are not capable of independent thought. They just parrot the loudest voices in this place (see the Mel Tucker meltdown). They accuse people who like Napier of liking him because he is coaching in Lafayette, which is not true in most cases but at the same time they dislike him because he is coaching in Lafayette.

Brian Kelly is the white whale:
Very successful at 4 different schools
Still in the playoff hunt.
Like the last 2 hires had proven success at the top level of their sport.
Already in th ND record books with most wins
May be ready to leave ND after 12 seasons and get a big salary jump
I think he is more interested than people think.

Well that didn't happen. He never turned down 3 SEC offers. You guys read this on TD from some random guy with "sources" and believe it as fact. He was never offered 3 SEC jobs.

Napier may be the next great coach, but this isn’t a Peterson or Jimbo situation where you’re pulling a coup to get a proven elite coach.
Agree. I like Napier just fine but as you say, not really a high profile candidate. But really good potential based on what can be discerned.

Put him at UAB and nobody here who wants him now would want him, but since he’s coaching at a rinkydink college in Louisiana, he’s the “best there is”.
that's a stupid argument and not true
Actually it’s 100% true. Or else Chadwell (you know the guy who actually won the sun belt the year that Napier and UL claim ole miss style) would be the most talked about coach rather than Napier. But since he coaches at coastal and coached at Charleston southern rather than down I 10 no one wants him.

Twitter - Napier turns down Auburn Job

The 41-year-old Napier might be the hottest name in college football, but why won’t he move? His name has been tied to more than a half-dozen job openings in the Power 5, and yet he remains in the bayou. How could a coach, in only his third season in the Sun Belt, turn down feelers from a blue-blood football program like Auburn and another with a rabid and hungry fan base in the SEC East?
But we only know and care cause he is in Lafayette i thought? No way does anyone else think he is a hot name...

Thanks man, thoughtful response and I appreciate the insight
I agree with you on his offense background, I really want that in our next HC.
I am skeptical about the notion that he ever had an offer from Auburn, but he was certainly smart enough to not jump at the opportunity at South Carolina.
He’s had two good seasons, and is well on his way to a third. Would have been interesting to see if he could have played Chadwell, who I think is another solid candidate, for the championship last year after losing to him at home in the regular season.
Looks they could be heading for another possible face off this year, would love to see it.

Or maybe its because instead of his career being at places like
Clemson
Alabama
Colorado State
Arizona State
its at
East Tennessee State
Charleston Southern
North Greenville
Delta State
Coastal Carolina
Napier has never been a HC in the Power 5...true
Chadwell has never coached in the power 5...period.

Yeah, I don't like what feels like stumping/campaigning for certain candidates.
It sure feels like many of the media members have been almost pumping Napier and Tucker. It does feel a little like O. However, I still trust Woodward over what Alleva did.
I remember being so disgusted by 247 and Shea Dixon when LSU hired O.

The first link doesn't say he turned down feelers, it says he turned down the job. The rumor is that Auburn offered him the job but wanted to dictate his staff and he told them no. idk, offered the job, didnt offer the job, bottom line the guy has had a lot of interest the last few years and people here trying to act like no one knows who he is and we only want him cause he is in Lafayette is ridiculous.

That just doesn't do anything for me.
I actually rather see a guy pave his own way without riding the success of such big names. That's just me though. That's why I prefer Aranda over Tucker.

He’s been the head coach at multiple of these and has replicated his success. I’d say that’s more applicable to being a head coach than fetching sabans coffee.
Urban Meyer had 1 year as a grad assistant at Ohio state. Otherwise he was purely group of 5 until he went to Florida but he had replicated his success multiple times. Like Chadwell.
Billy boy Napier has the resume of Derek Dooley.

Me as well...I would be fine with either Napier or Aranda, love them both...Riley is my pie in the sky #1 but if we cant get him then give me Napier or Aranda over someone like James Franklin or Cristobal

Never really thought about it that way, I would be good with Chadwell too...and I can say that without having to say ridiculous things like
