OU should have hired a proven head coach.

There just aren’t a ton of these out there.

Worked for them when they brought Big Lame Bob in from his DC job with the Gaytors.

Maybe they catch lightning in a bottle again.

CBK would not have taken a step back to coach the Gaytors.

They’d rather go cheap, kinda like LSU with Curley.

Good luck with that.

Just my opinion. OU should have hired a proven head coach.

Who doesn't want a proven head coach? It's easy to do that, you hire a proven name, you don't have to take any type of criticism if it doesn't work out. It's like every employer out there wants someone with experience already.

I've rarely heard any job say we prefer someone with no experience. Similarly no program says we prefer a first-time HC. That said, if you're going to hire a first-time HC you can't do much better than BV in terms of resume. And OU did pretty well going with an unproven commodity last time.

The other side of career coordinator that waited for the right job is Kirby Smart. We'll see how it turns out.

I can see your prospective from the outside looking in, but he is who we, as a fan base, wanted as the coach. He’s a loyal, program guy. He’s an elite defensive coach, which again, is something the fan base wanted.

The underwhelming hire is Ted Roof as DC. I’m just hoping BV will be calling the plays and he wanted one of his guys to help run everything.

I wanted Aranda at LSU. But good with Kelly. OU is better off with BV/JL going into the SEC. Riley teams would not be built for that type of schedule. You will go from Texas, TCU, KSU, TT, Kansas to Texas, Alabama, LSU, Florida, UGA Ole Miss, Auburn. Big difference.

Venables has been an elite DC for a while and probably the biggest reason outside of QB play that Clemson has their two championships under Dabo. In my opinion, he deserves just as much credit as dabo
