Any idea who might be on the short list? And was this expected by the University any whatsoever since he just signed an extension, or were they expecting him to leave?

I realize a contract and contract extension means little to nothing to a coach in regards to changing jobs, just curious as to whether UNA was blindsided by this.

Regardless it is an early Christmas gift, or "Miracle On Pine Street" imo.

Cool. So it sounds like this move was expected if you already know some names of candidates.

I don't think UNA was blindsided. Terry has been trying to get back into D-1 coaching for years and has thrown his name in the hat for every job he could. His move to UNA was just a chance to get back into the game after being in the radio booth for 10 years. He couldn't get a D-1 job and used his dad's connections to get to UNA. He has used his little bit of success at UNA to make a move to a school he won't win at.

ETA: Also, the names I am hearing I think are just the obvious candidates. I don't know yet how serious they are or if UNA has even reached out to anybody yet.

Will Hall, former UNA QB and Harlon Hill trophy winner and current West Alabama HC should get a look.

This guy seems like he's going to be a quick riser in the coaching world. I base this on nothing but reading wikipedia and watching one West Alabama game.

Truth.

When I said blindsided I meant relative to leaving this season. I knew he wanted to be back at D1 level extremely bad, but didn't know if UNA was expecting him to be there at least thru next season after he signed the year extension.

I'm going to go help him pack.

Will has certainly risen quickly and been successful so far. He is a great offensive coach. I wonder if he has enough experience to lead a program like UNA, which is likely making a move to Division 1 soon. He has only been a HC for one year at a school where expectations are much lower and the over all job is much easier.

Is Akron more "north" in terms of culture than WVU?

My experience in Ohio is that it isn't very "yankee".

He has taught me the error of my ways. From now on any coaching hire will get the only response needed from me.

He might be a good coach. None of us have ever coached with him before and none of us are D1 coaches so no need to discuss this further. Let's regroup in two or three years and see how he did.

My brother-in-law graduated UNA and that was his reaction. I've never been a Bowden fan. My brother played for him at Auburn and hated him.

I still think moving to D1 is a mistake, but the administration has made up its mind.

Slowly climbing his way back up the coaching tree...wonder just how far beyond Akron he can get.

They don't really have a choice. D2 isn't a viable option where they are. They struggled to fill their schedule this year with enough games to qualify for the D2 playoffs and are struggling to fill their schedule for next year.

Rumor is a hire has been made. Was in the works before Bowden left. No idea if true. Bobby Wallace and Raymond Monica are the names being speculated about.
