Me, if I'm Charlie Strong, I stay Louisville. No disrespect intended to A&M, but Louisville is mid, almost upper level job.

I dont think A&M can afford him. He just signed a 7 year extentsion @ $2.3 million per year. Including whatever buyout he would owe UL, you are looking at $20 million for Strong just to breakeven.

Add in Sherman's buyout(either another $6-8 million) & then the Big 12 buyout $10-15 million? That's a lot of money.

money isn't an issue with our largest donors (when they want to really use their bank accounts).

We have a few $750MM net worth donors who do their deal when they get motivated too. Unfortunately a couple don't get along. fricking egos.

Charlie Strong-Louisville coach that was Meyer's DC at Florida. Heavy SEC ties and has done a solid job turning around a disaster at Louisville. Also was a GA at A&M in the '80s.

Strong is my main choice but apparently he isn't going to interview. Looks like Fedora or Sumlin. I'm hoping Fedora.

Sherman's liquidated damages under his contract are to be mitigated by whatever he makes in subsequent employment. Sherman will get an NFL job as a coordinator at the minimum (probably paid around $1 million), and might very well get a head coaching job (Jaguars might be interested). I don't think that his buyout will end up being that onerous.

Sherman was scheduled to make $2.2 million next year. If Strong wants the A&M job, money won't be a problem. However, it seems that we're having trouble getting permission from Louisville to talk to Strong. That's usually not a good idea for the school denying permission--doesn't exactly engender goodwill with your employees, and other schools remember than whenever you have vacancies in the future.

Never really understood this.

If A&M wants to talk to him...go talk to him.

2010:
Auburn
Arkansas (2nd)
LSU
Bama

2011:
LSU
Bama
Arkansas (3rd)
Georgia

What's so funny about that?

The last 2 years, the SECs 2nd/3rd best team was coached by an offensive minded head coach. It's not impossible to be successful in the SEC sans-defensive dominance.

Get a defensive coach or your stay in the SEC will be miserable every day of every year forever.

You mean get a top notch DC when the HC is an offense guy, i.e. The Hat + The Chief.

Clearly the top candidate is Kirby Smart for them. He would recruit well enough because of his "Saban" ties.

I was under the impression that money is of no concern to A&M, especially considering its alumni's loyalty and strong feelings towards the school.

I'd go with Strong. He did fairly well this year, and his team appeared to be improving. He's a good recruiter, and having some D-1 experience is beneficial.

Smart would be #2, consider you're going into the west, and you want to make your team better, but if you can do that and weaken another team in your division, why not?

Fedora is a solid coach, he just doesn't seem like a good fit for an SEC school IMO.

Sumlin. As a western division opponent I heartily endorse A&M hiring Sumlin.
