It's too bad that Lee never called the plays at Arkansas, Nutt always did outside of Gus' short tenure there. You must not know much about Nutt run teams if you honestly believe Lee called any plays. He's a scrub.
He's been an OC and Head Coach before working with Nutt.

What makes you say that?
Maybe hate was a strong word, but I've heard he wasn't particularly fond of him. I know he's told people Miles "held him back offensively" (take that however you'd like).
I don't think T-Boone was a huge Miles fan either.

Much obliged on adding my two faves, Ludwig and Ver Steeg. A few questions, as your research is much better than mine.
1. Didn't know he'd taken the KState gig. Did he show up and leave? Or accept, and back out a day or so later? That's one of my concerns about him - near as I can tell, he's never worked east of the Wasatch Mountains.
2. How tight are Cameron and Miles, and why? I think I read once they'd run across each other as assistants. But if they're "close cohorts," maybe Ver Steeg really is someplace Miles would turn. If Ver Steeg won't be an NFL OC anytime soon, and is OK with getting back to college, my guess is LSU can pay him more than he'll make as an NFL lower-tier assistant.

Thanks for bringing Ver Steeg to my attention. He's a guy I never would have thought of.

He showed up for 2 months, then was offered the OC gig at Cal and bailed. I vaguely remember the story. I'm guessing his decision had to do with both his location and his interesting history with Tedford.

I think pretty close. I know there was a piece about Miles from a couple months back where they interviewed Cameron about him, and he had positives things to say. They were assistants together at Michigan.
If you believe the rumors, Miles left Michigan on poor terms due to beef with Lloyd Carr and there's kind of a dividing line of the guys that are loyal to Carr and those that are indifferent/against him. I'm not sure how true that is, but Cameron did leave Michigan in 1993 and Miles in 1994.
At the very least, they are on speaking terms. I'm sure Cameron is a guy Miles respects and would bend his ear to Les if he inquired about potential candidates. If that conversation took place, I don't see why he wouldn't recommend Ver Steeg.
But the question is... how much does he like the NFL? Some guys want to coordinate an offense and that's what they love doing. Norm Chow probably could have stuck around in the NFL as a QB coach, but he likes being an OC, so he came back to college. But the hours for NFL guys are much more cush. No recruiting. An actual offseason, where you can rest. The college game is pretty much a 365 grind where if you aren't coaching, you're recruiting. If you aren't recruiting, you're keeping tabs on your current players. If you aren't keeping tabs, you're coaching and on and on and on. If Ver Steeg tired of that, he might be content to enjoy his 6 figure NFL salary, lighter responsibilities and the nice benefits and pension that come along with.
However, I HOPE he's interested, because the more I read about him, the more I think he would be the perfect fit.

why no Dana Holgorsen?
+1
I see why hes not on the "realistic list" though, he just got to Okie St so itd be a little shady for him to bounce after 1 season

We can only hope...
I suppose I could always expand it to more than LSU related since so many teams are searching...

Hell to the no. Did you watch their offense this year? Awful to say the least. They had a big time playmaker at WR and could not find a way to get him the ball.

I try to judge based off more than one sample season sample size.
He oversaw one of the 4 offenses in NCAA that put up 50 points in 4 straight games at Fresno State.
But yeah, they didn't have a great year.

This will also be the 6th year in a row at a different job for him

Here's a very solid candidate people keep overlooking
David Yost
LINK
he may be a hard get since he's worked with Pinkel since 1997 but he's worked his way up to being offensive coordinator and now mentored three straight outstanding college (MU) quarterbacks who went to the NFL:
1) Brad Smith
2) Chase Daniels
3) Blaine Gabbert
He develops quarterbacks, he recruits (Texas), and he runs different offenses based on the talent available
Eventually this guy is going to be a head coach IMO and LSU would do well to get him for their Offensive Coordinator
