better coach? yea, probably. better fit? yes, but that list is much shorter

Exactly. O's CEO style won't really work at smaller schools. Actually, defensive coaches hardly workout at smaller schools. That is where offense gurus shine and rack up gaudy stats. But then when they get to the big stage it's tough for them to pan out as champion coaches (winning coaches? Yes. Champion coaches? Uh)

See Sumlin, Herman, Briles, Morris, etc

I actually see Meyer as a CEO type. He's had good OCs (Sanford, Mullen, Herman) that has gone on to be decent in their own right.

Fisher yes. But he never was a HC at a small school.

In hindsight, Jimbo should have been hired over Miles. I still think LSU wins the 2007 NC and maybe 2006, which was arguably a better team IMO

I don't think so. Still was too young, he had more to learn.

He's good to go now

He was basically brought to FSU so the admin could politely ask Bowden to retire. He'd have been HC as soon as he arrived had Bowden been shown the door earlier.

yes, We don't want to trade one O line coach for another.

Howbeit, I reallly think he has this interim coach thing down pat.
Doing a great job now.

The real question is outside of Herman, is there a real, better option?

Yes. Aranda would be better for starters.

of course there is. Successful coordinators are all over the place. It doesn't have to be a sexy name.

LSU is a top tier job. I don't think attracting quality coaches should be a problem.

Jimbo I think is the most realistic hire out there. And I think his offense works at LSU and matches up with the talent in the state. But if FSU beats Clemson then rides momentum to the end of the year? Emotionally it may be a tough time for him to leave.

But lose to Clemson and he could begin packing his office...

I posed a question to jnoles last night, but it was late and i never heard back. Could Jimbo to LSU be the best thing for ALL parties including FSU?

Not that jnoles is or claims to be an insider but he was expressing his opinion that Jimbo was stale aka too long of a time at FSU and is going in to decline. For FSU to fire Jimbo they must pay him somewhere in the 33 mil area, as i understand it.

So, if the AD is feeling like they could do better this year in the coaching search maybe he doesn't try to keep Jimbo if LSU comes knocking. Maybe everyone wins, assuming FSU has a good idea of who they would replace him with.

Again, i know jack shite about FSU Athletics and this was one poster's opinion about Jimbo's time/future success at FSU. I just keep getting this gut feeling it will end up being Jimbo.

Pretty sure Aranda would be a better choice to promote to HC, rather than Coach O.

Maybe chip kelly? Fleck is a possibility too. That's the piece i would be blindly guessing at.

Eta: the buyout lsu would pay could help them compete for kelly or herman or any other coach they wanted.

This is just a personal theory nothing more. Just so no one gets the idea I'm selling something here.

I totally agree. Regardless of the eventual record, hiring Miles was a mistake. There's actually some fairly good information out there that he was on the verge of getting canned at Okie State.

And Miles was so much better.

Remember in 2006 when Rich Brooks asked "How did this team (LSU) lose two games already?"

I think more people are willing to admit the answer to that question now.
