Coach O has not PROVEN as LSU's interim coach that he can sucessfully run the program as full time head coach! That's where your example is faulty.
He has proven twice, at USC and now at LSU (so far), that he can rally the troops on an INTERIM basis when there is nowhere to go but up. What he has done as an interim coach is laudable, but it is not equivalent to being the full-time head coach of a top 5 college football program.
The only evidence or PROOF we have of his ability to run a major college program of his own for an extended period was his stint at Ole Miss, which was not successful. And while some want to give him the benefit of the doubt because he says he's "changed", many would prefer we not take that chance when a coach like Jimbo Fisher is possible.

quote:I completely agree. Sark getting hired at USC was a little different. Sark didn't have the resume that Jimbo has. Their decision was a lot harder. O left that school because he felt like he wasn't given a fair shake. If we hire Jimbo, you can't argue that O didn't get a fair shake as an interim HC. There are not many programs out there who wouldn't hire Jimbo if they had an open spot.
If that person was more qualified than me, why should I be upset?
The program is investing a lot of money. If Jimbo is hired and doesn't work out, they can say they went with the best option. If O is hired over Jimbo and it doesn't work out, they'll have to defend why they went with the emotional hire instead of the more qualified pick. Yes, Jimbo will be more money in the head coaching position, but using the "we wanted to stay cheap" excuse is not going to fly with a program this big. It's not easy for the suits to make the O over Jimbo decision.
I hope O can understand that if we hire Jimbo Fisher, it's nothing personal. I think if he truly loves LSU, he will. That doesn't mean if he doesn't stay as a DL coach and recruiting coordinator that he hates LSU or anything. I can understand him being sad about things not happening for him, but I would hope that he doesn't blame LSU like he did USC. Just my opinion.
If O truly does want to be a head coach, I think this would be the perfect opportunity for him to try a head coaching position somewhere smaller. That way he can prove more about what he's learned by running another program over time. His options will be MUCH higher now after what he's done this year and hopefully what he'll do in the last two games.

I think the decision will come down to who they think can beat Saban. CEO with a new OC running the USC Pete Carroll offense or Jimbo with his.
Another consideration I would look at if I was responsible for spending a whole lot of other people's money - if they hire O for cheap and he doesn't work out he will leave the team loaded with talent. If you wait you can get Jimbo for a $3 million buyout between Jan 2017 and Dec 2018 and $1 million after January 1, 2019.

I honestly give zero fricks about O's furure if it doesn't pertain to the HC job at LSU. If he leaves then OK. If he stays great! The biggest piece of the puzzle here is fixing our offense with a solid offensive minded HC. Jimbo can recruit just as well as O. It's something to not concern yourself over when weighting an HC decision between Jimbo and O.

quote:The people who contribute the most money are pretty much the ones who will decide anyway. We have no idea what they want. Somebody started a thread about the boosters not being happy about Alleva pushing for O so they hired a firm to help with the search. I'm not sure if they're the ones pushing for Jimbo or whoever else and that thread could be completely full of shite.

But ultimately, they'll be the ones making the calls, IMO.

Jesus, I have seen people call others a Beta on this site and not agreed. You have earned your Beta title.
So you're telling me at no point in your life have you taken on more responsibility than you were paid for? And that every single time you did more than asked, you were promoted or rewarded with more than a bonus or recognition?
First, I highly doubt that.
Second, If you only give to get, that's on you bud and a terrible way to live

O hasn't done this.

frick that, if I turn a company losing money into a profitable company, I want my shot and my money that comes with it.
Well, don't we think highly of ourselves.
If we're taking your example absolutely literally, which I really wasn't, that's a different story. The problem is it doesn't correlate with this LSU thing at all, so bad example. LSU is fine. They aren't "losing money," they looked ugly in a few games, but they still have tons of talent, and a bright future. That's vastly different from a company "losing money."

As with most coaches, Orgeron is an Alpha male. He's not going to wimper back to his old desk with his shoulders slumped over thinking about how wonderful it will be to work for the new guy who just replaced him.

Well, this IS happening at an institution of higher learning but if you think the big money, needing big results world of college athletics is anything like being a tenured professor, you are nuts along with being a Beta male. If you aren't a male I apologize for assuming you are !!!
