10 years is a long time. Good hire no doubt. But 10 years is too far to predict anything. Contract is not A&m friendly. If he fails, they are stuck.

We can fire O next year and pay less than what they for one year. Nobody is saying Jimbo is not better. The contract is one-sided.

We're in the SEC now, this will change our program for the good: Still suck
We have a Heisman QB, this will change our program for the good: Still suck
We hired Chavis for DC, this will change our program for the good: Still suck
We hired Jimbo, this will change our program for the good: TBD

Don't get me wrong, it is highly likely this will be a great hire in the end, but if it doesn't work out...they should probably just stop trying.

Jimbo has less sucessful stint at FSU than les at Lsu. And he is at acc. He is way better than O for sure

The problem is that isn't a team that's going to be elite in the next 2-3 years no matter who the coach is. They are outmatched on both sides of the ball and have been soft for decades. Jimbo definitely had the talent to turn them around but when he doesn't win like they want right away it could get ugly.

Look what NFL coaches make, and they have to actually pay their labor. It's not much money.

In Texas public universities can’t be sued for failing to pay a buyout. They’re unenforceable against the school. See Mike Leach’s poured out suit against Texas Tech.

TAMU is absolutely flush with oil and gas money. This is peanuts.

I was a big supporter of hiring Jimbo in 2015. I think his greatest value would be at LSU, where our glaring weakness has been identifying and developing QBs. We always have defensive talent and at the skill positions on offense outside of QB.

But, if LSU had signed Jimbo after a 5-6 season with the talent he had at FSU, preseason #2, to the largest contract in the history of CFB, after paying Sumlin 10 mil in addition to Jimbo's buyout, I would be inclined to limit my financial support to them.

I mean your administration was stupid enough to think a Sumlin offense could ever win the SEC, and when an opposing DC shut that offense down, you threw money at him, so he could in turn not even produce a competitive game vs that team.

A&M hasn't really struggled finding good QBs, so I'm not sure Jimbo is going to really have the same impact he would have had at LSU. I expect him to improve the running game, which will in turn, at least give your defense a fighting chance. Our series should get a bit more competitive, but his hiring still doesn't have Saban-like effects, yet you're stuck with a Sabanesque financial commitment which has followed a long history of bad management already.

So why pay them then? If there are no repercussions then why are they paying Sumlins buyout? Because if they don't they'd never be able to hire an able bodied coach again so it's an empty argument.
As for the massive amount of money they have at their expense, the people spending it didn't get it by throwing it away. They will get tired of doing it if the hires keep failing miserably. So again an empty argument.

Both of those things did change A&M’s program for the good.

We wouldn’t be getting Jimbo today if we were a Big 12 team that didn’t have the facilities JFF helped pay for.

They haven’t paid him. And if they do, it will be far less than owed—will be a nuisance settlement.

I don’t think you’re grasping the kinds of money we’re talking... it severely skews relativity

TAMU’s endowment is $11 billion. LSU’s is around 6% of that.

What's the buyout on a contract like that (since that's all the talk after the firings this year)?

If LSU paid that kind of money and it didn't work out, the program would be in shambles. aTm would likely just do it again. It is what it is.

The guarantee is what is costly about this contact more so than the salary.

They will pay his buyout or get blacklisted by coaches. Leach was a different animal because he was fired for “cause.” No elite college is going to risk getting blacklisted.
