The San Francisco 49ers are hitting reset.

Chip Kelly was fired by the organization Sunday after only one season as the team's coach, the 49ers announced. General manager Trent Baalke confirmed earlier in the day that he also had been relieved of his duties.

“Despite my feelings for Trent and Chip, I felt the decision to change our football leadership was absolutely necessary," 49ers owner Jed York said in a statement. The performance of this team has not lived up to my expectations or those of our fans, and that is truly disappointing. We all expected to see this team progress and develop as the season went on, but unfortunately that did not happen. That is why now is the time to find a new direction for this team.”

San Francisco went 2-14 in Kelly's lone season. The team also fired Jim Tomsula after just one conclusion at the conclusion of last year's campaign.

The 49ers will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. ET on Monday.

Didn't see the story linked. I understand it happened a few hours ago. I can take it down if you like.

Oregon is probably wishing they had waited a little longer.

pretty stupid move in my opinion. Kelly could be a solid coach without all the distraction that the shithead provided to the team all season and he should be gone next year. I would at least give him another year to try to do something.

I really love how Jed York went all in on Trent Baalke. Great call

One of my favorites is when they leaked that Harbaugh wouldn't let the veterans play cards on the team plane after games.

A) Bad idea to force a coach on a new GM

B) Nobody wanted to be Chip's DC

It's bad bc this is what they should have done last year (well, they should have kept Harbs over Baalke but be that as it may). The org badly needs a reset and the best way to do it is open up both the GM and Coach jobs and find a team that can work together well.
