I picked up this 240 page sprint the other day and I cannot remember the last time I read a book that fast. I could not put it down. It was my second time reading Charles Porter's 1968 masterpiece. If you haven't read it or don't own it, do yourself a favor and go spend $5-15 and add it to your library. It is an absolute classic.

I try to read it every 4 or 5 years. An American classic.
The first movie with John Wayne was an abomination, not even remotely true to the book. They tried to make it a western and its not.
Second movie was much more faithful.

Oddly enough I didn’t even know it was a book except I was in square books this morning and walking around and saw the westerns section and saw true grit on the shelf it stopped me in my tracks. Had no idea that book existed

The Coen brothers movie is far superior to the John Wayne movie

It shocked me when I saw it was released 15 years ago. Quick decade and a half gone.

3 yrs ago went on a big western run. True Grit, Lonesome Dove series, Blood Meridian, Empire of the Summer Moon, few others.
True Grit is a fun read. Didnt realize how the movie dialogue is so close to the book before I read it.
