The Benedict Option by Rod Dreher. Second time. Path for Christians to maintain the Faith in a post-Christian country and culture. Notifies American Christians that they have lost the culture wars.

The Siege of Mecca by Yaroslav Trofimov. Little covered and less remembered hostage crisis which lays at the feet of Saudi Arabian mishandling and duplicity the creation of Al-Queda and worldwide violent terrorist jihad.

Just finished The Word is Murder and The Feather Thief. Both were excellent.

Feather Thief surprised me because I was hesitant to read it because of the synopsis but I couldn’t put it down.

Just finished The Terminal List. Gov conspiracy/ ex-military officer goes rouge for revenge. As with all these types of fiction it's a bit out there in places and there are a few plot holes towards the end. But overall I enjoyed it and thought the detail and planning was interesting.

The first book is one of my favorites.

The second was at best OK but not nearly as great as the first.

The third was a nice rebound and got the series back on track.

Problem is, apparently Lynch had some personal issues and looks like we will never get the next book.

Reading up on it, it looks like the 4th one will be out "relatively" soon and he is only like 40 so should be able to finish up the series at some point.

That said, I thought this was just a trilogy honestly, I am going to read Lies of Locke Lamora because people seem to say it is pretty self contained and a must read book. I may pick out something else in a complete series and wait to dive in more until Lynch finishes more of the series.

Book 4 has been coming soon for 4 or 5 years now it seems.

I think it was planned for 6 or 7 books.

But yes, Lies is a self contained story and it is great.

The second is kind of self ca rained as well, though some of it might be hard to understand without reading the first. Republic of Theives I dont think can be read as a stand alone novel at all. Builds upon too much from the first 2 and doesn’t end at a nice stopping point like the first 2. Which is why the wait for book 4 has been so hard.

About to start The Rape Of Nanking The Forgotten Holocaust of World War 2

Read a few Wikipedia links about it and I'm grossly intrigued

Found myself in a lull where I have caught up on all of my favorite authors so I decided to branch out a bit based on rec's from this board.

Just started reading Sanderson's Steelheart. Really glad I did.
