Just got it today in the mail and will crack it open Sunday morning for sure. I'm not a fantasy guy and have only read ASOIAF and love it. Just trying to change it up and get into some fantasy. Did y'all enjoy?

I really enjoyed it a lot, though it took maybe 5 or so chapters to really hook me in. This is one of those books that I enjoy more on audio book, partially because the narrator is so good, and partially because Rothfuss (the author) does some fun things with rhyming and word play that I didn't pick up on when I just read it.
The stories and characters and settings are good, but the way the story is told is what really stands out about this book.

I really enjoyed it and A Wise Man's Fear.
The magic system is interesting in that it is kind of based in science if that makes sense.

Rothfuss is a huge shite head. He’s got the best prose in the game though. Dude writes beautifully.

That fat frick is never gonna finish that third book.

Still trying to write a story where Kvothe ends up a poor college student.

One of the great fantasy novels of the past 25 years. Truly, in my mind, a masterwork.
Too bad that Rothfuss is a headcase and more focused on everything else but finishing book 3

Bingo. It's unfortunate he became completely unhinged during the last election.
Loved the books, but I just don't think we'll ever see the conclusion.

It is fantastic with a minor diversion or two. A Wise Man's Fear is... Far worse. Talk about meandering.

You don't like 100 pages of fairy fricking?

I've never read anyone who writes in a way that genuinely has a musical feel to it. The scenes where he's describing Kvothe's playing or singing are close to magical, simply incredibly done.
Don't get me started on the plot mess that is the second book (or really the entire series up to this point if you really think about it).

He's a beautiful writer.
But he's a shithead of a person and if successful publishers were able to force their writers to accept real editors that whole silly and cringeworthy 100 page long sex scene in the second book would have been cut.
I have my doubts that we'll ever see the third book.

This is starting to be a theme.
I agree with everyone else. Fantastic writing but I doubt it's ever finished.

It's one of my all time favorites to be honest.
To everyone saying he isn't going to finish: I think he will, it will just be a lot longer than we want. He's already finished a manuscript, but in the edits of the first two books they changed so much that he's having to re-work the last book I think. Also, I think he has some serious depression issues that make him feel a ton of pressure to finish it.

I finished it up this morning. Enjoyed it start to finish and Rothfuss really does write beautifully. Probably will wait a few months before I start the second one though.

I’ve told this same to people several times irl. It is exceptional for the genre.

Meh, it;s a solid novel that's calling point is it's excellent prose. But the story is pretty generic and standard fantasy fare that's been done a bazillion times in fantasy. The plot meanders all over the place and has pacing issues. Definitely not even close to being one of the best novels of the last 25 years, definitely not a masterwork.
The second book falls off horribly, a big pile of meh that is basically Rothfuss wanking on the page with author wish fulfillment, it's silly and pointless.
