Honestly the further I get into the book series (almost done with Lord of Chaos) no way they can replicate internal struggles with Rand on screen. These writers simply won’t be able to come up with a creative way to translate it to screen.

Especially since they fricked up the ending of the eye of the world in season one which would have been much simpler.

Also, still pissed what they did with Mat and Perrin in the show. Ruined them both IMO.

Perrin’s back story depiction sucked and he seems like a Neanderthal in the series who can’t string two words together.

Mat just came off as a complete jackass evil guy

Perrin came off as mentally challenged instead of deliberate.

The main male characters were definitely given worse development and outcomes than in the books.

It’s definitely a difficult series to put on film. The sheer number of locations, characters, and internal dialogue.

I think its doable with enough money and resources, but most importantly, better creative.

As for Rand's internal stuff, that is definitely the hardest to translate, which is why they almost have to do something with Lews/Moiraine (post doorway) as someone Rand can have conversations with reflecting his mental state.

Certainly a tricky line to walk.

Does the story expand after the 3rd book? I just finished Dragon Reborn, and the story is not vast at all yet. This book hardly even had Rand. It followed the 3 girls, Perrin, and Mat. I am enjoying the story and already bought book 4, but I keep seeing people talk about how vast the story is. I am hoping that expansion happens soon.

I don't get why Perrin couldn't have his axe. You weaken him by excluding something so simple. Instead Rand has his sword AND bow and arrow (don't get me started ho incredibly stupid a quiver that holds a strung longbow is, it's just unbelievably stupid to anybody who has ever shot or hunted with a traditional bow). Ok, Rand is the most important, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to be a puss.

I stopped reading after book two because I'm just not crazy about the story, but I'm not going to watch season two. I'm going to try and do my part in in stopping these idiots from screwing up source material. You just have to stop watching the show. I stopped with Foundation on Apple+. That was an absolute abomination of an adaption, not quite as bad as WoT, but close. I'll give LOTR a shot, but will stop watching it pretty quickly if they are just not trying to hold true to source material. I don't want to see my favorite books screwed up so I'm fine not watching them.

Oh yes. It keeps getting bigger. By the end of it, you’ll have an incredible wealth of knowledge about this vast fictional world and all it’s jargon, characters, and places. The world building just keeps piling onto itself. It’s wonderful, but don’t be in a rush. Be patient and let the story and its world stretch out.

If anyone cares in the slightest, they released some stuff from S2 at Comic-Con, and the show has been officially renewed for S3.

I know most people on here seem to be out for good, but alot more smoke now that season 2 is going to be much better. First there was word among the crew, which must be taken with a grain of salt, but they all believe season 2 to be much better than season 1. Then there were rumors from people close to the show saying the same thing. Now it seems like amazon at least agrees to some extent with the early season 3 pickup.

We'll see soon enough, but I will now have some hope whenever the first 3 eps drop that things will be better.

So the people whose livelihood depends on the continued production of the show are murmuring that season 2 is going to be even better than the Magnificent first?

Has there been any mention of what being better means? Better production values? Has there actually been any mention of return to the source material?

I will keep tagging along on the off chance that the showrunners have had a Coming to the Creator moment, but I am not holding my breath.

It has been nice though to have this uncensored space to share my grievances with fellow fans of the series, and hear from those fans who were prepared to tolerate a great deal more than me in an effort to give the show every chance to prove itself. And disappointed that the show is so overwhelmingly bad that very few defenders remain

Yeah, I get that it can be hard to believe this type of stuff but you can get clues from reading between the lines on these things and usually its not that out of whack with the end result.

For example, there were similar whispers before season 1 that were quite negative and ended up panning out so the fact that these same whispers are much more positive for season 2 does mean a little more than you might think. Also, the leaks are usually coming from people working on the show that arent necessarily committed to the show in any real way so they have no incentive to lie about these things. And usually if things are going poorly, they want to leak it and get out ahead of it to not be associated so strongly with it.

As to the specifics, I have heard the production values are supposed to be alot better for season 2. They got an expanded budget for season 2, plus they have much more time to do the VFX and stuff. Season 1 was rushed out by Amazon because they wanted a trial run for the Lord of the Rings show, which is why The Wheel of Time exists at all. Amazon used it as a training ground for directors, production staff, and just a general feel of doing a big fantasy tv show.

As for the source material question, thats more of a subjective thing. Of season 1's many problems, not following the source material closely enough would not rank in my top 10. The ultimate story of season 1 tracks pretty closely to book 1, with a couple of brief exceptions to flesh out certain story beats. But anyway, I would assume season 2 will probably follow season 1 from a structure standpoint. But thats pure speculation.

And while this board is very out on the show, the WOT fandom at large is much more split. There are still huge numbers of WOT fans who love the show, another group that were pretty meh on the show, and a group that hated it. Individual boards have a tendency to become hive mind groupthinks about various shows or whatever, so it depends on where you look.

That doesn't count Of course they're going to say that.

It may get better I don't know, but it's only going to get further and further away from the source material, which is obviously not a good thing.

I hope you are right and season 2 is much better and would assume Amazon would only greenlight season 3 if they felt it was.

The really good thing from all of this imo is that Sanderson is getting an inside view on what it is to make a TV show. I don't' know if you heard Sanderson's podcast from a couple weeks ago. He said that all of Hollywood has coming knocking on his door this year.

I'm both happy and worried as I'm afraid it's going to seriously derail his writing schedule. He said Stormlight 5 has been pushed to 2024 because of this.

The good thing is Sanderson will want alot of control over whatever adaption(s) he agrees to. I love his quote that, "Hollywood doesn't know what to do when you don't need their money".

It's great that he is in the financial position to say no, if they don't agree to his demands for creative and writing control.

The WOT Fandom is very split indeed. A lot of the positive momentum is coming from the DragonCon/Dragonmount folks whose livelihoods are dependent on Wheel of Time being news worthy. It is what it is, but I do wish they wouldn't shill as hard for it.

As far as story deviation not being a major problem, I would argue that the deviation is what led to decisions that made the overall product worse.

I'll still watch S2, but I do not think it will be good and I have zero faith in Rafe to even do a competent job.

Not looking for spoilers because I'm currently reading but I've read that there is a 2 or 3 book boring stage, I must be in it because I'm 15 or so chapters in to book 7 and it's been tough for me to get through.
