Interesting article. I rolled my eyes a bit at first because I thought it may be a largely semantic take but I came around and shared with a few folks.
I think "The question is no longer “Who do I want to be and how can I be fulfilled” but who is God and what do I owe him?" sums it up well.
I liked the vocational tie in as well. For a cliche, I've always appreciated "Bloom where you're planted" and it's even more difficult/countercultural in the current age (although I think it needs the proper scriptural context to avoid becoming another rote "be your true self" thing).

Welp, sad to report that I have made little to no progress on the book over the last 6 months (1st time pregnant wife, buying a home, and prepping ourselves and the new house for a baby).
I did find the book last night and read a little, which led me to this thread. The article you linked is incredibly pertinent to the subject. Excellent work and ty.
Anyone have any opinions on the book?

I've read it. A lot of info, and he lays out how we got here fairly well. I'll probably need to read it again.

Haven’t read the book, but we worked together about 9 years ago. I invited him as a guest lecturer for our summer conferences hosted overseas.
He’s not a very personable guy. In fact he’s awkward and cold. Not a big deal. Plus, I know the real reason he left Westminster for Grove City.

And what is that reason?

Let’s just say he put himself in a precarious situation that could have gotten worse.

Good book but author is way over my head. Took me a long time to read.

Sounds like he was susceptible to blackmail?

No, no blackmail. Just looked better to move on.
