No, this is not necessarily a "book" topic; however, I'm thinking of getting myself an annual subscription of The New Yorker.

For those of you that have it and/or occasionally read it, do you enjoy the magazine and its content? Is it worth the $100? Or, would you suggest something else in the alternative?

I used to love it but it is too partisan now. enjoyed reading about 3/4 of an issue.

Yes, I enjoy it. It's the only print magazine I have a subscription for.

What does the print version have that's not online?

I had it for a year. If you're conservative you won't like reading it. There are some good writers featured.

You may be able to read it almost free online. There are apps like Magzter where you can read magazines pretty cheap online, unless you really want the print version.

Nowadays it is a living breathing and self parody of effete elitism. The film critic is the lowest imitation of Pauline kael

I’d suggest the Atlantic as an alternative along those lines. Not nearly as partisan and has some great articles and columns

I dislike most New Yorker articles. Can’t recall a virtuous article written in that magazine the last few years.

I guess everyone's definition of virtuous is different, but Ronan Farrow's article on Harvery Weinstein was first published in The New Yorker.

It’s definitely worth having, imo.

Fair warning: It’s considered a “liberal” rag on the political board, but it’s far more than that and has great writing. Plus the legendary cartoons.

Not worth it. Sign up for The New Criterion instead if you want a review of culture and intellectual life. New Yorker is fake high brow.

My first thought was how hyperpartisan is the New Yorker if the Atlantic isn't nearly as partisan.

Not worth $100. Don't they sell it at some crazy 80% discount or some shite? I think you can get it for like $30 or so. I used to have it. Cancelled it because I found I didn't enjoy it all that much. Had it for the short stories and realized I don't like a lot of the shite they publish.

I’ve seen Atlantic pieces criticizing woke cance culture and defending Jordan Peterson before. Good luck finding that in New Yorker

uh, it seems that anything that's not consistently very conservative is considered "partisan" around these parts.

truth.
