Can y’all recommend list of books on these two topics? I want some good, in depth literature. Thanks for any suggestions.

Fiction or non fiction?

If the latter, read 1776

Non-fiction preferably. I need and want to have better knowledge of that time.

Then definitely read 1776.

Great insight into the early revolutionary war and the struggles Washington and his men faced and overcame.

Every step of the way, the entire revolution was on the precipice of completely falling apart.

If you like historical fiction I recommend "To Try Men's Souls", "Valley Forge", and "Victory at Yorktown". It's a three book series on the Revolutionary War written by Newt Gingrich and William Forstchen.

Read Nathaniel Philbrick’s Bunker Hill, Valiant Ambition, and In the Hurricane’s Eye. The three books cover the salient parts of the beginning to the end of the revolution.

Does this go into the years leading up to the revolution in the early 1770s?

If not, is there something that goes into the events leading up to the revolution and those that ultimately triggered it?

John Adams and 1776 both by David McCullough. There's an illustrated version of 1776 with maps and letters that is really cool if you can find it.

Rick Atkinson’s “The British are Coming” - 1st in a trilogy. His WWII trilogy is also fantastic.
John Ferling’s “Almost a Miracle”

I’d also second the Philbrick trilogy and recommend a few books on the war in the Southern colonies by John Buchanan. “The Road to Gulfport Courthouse” and “The Road to Charleston”. Just finished a bio on Nathaneal Greene. Highly recommend anything on Greene as he fought in both theatres.

The McCollough books are great. If you are looking for something more comprehensive in the style of the Shelby Foote Civil War books, check out Page Smith's two volume work. A New Age Now Begins.

Grant by Ron Chernow is my favorite book I’ve ever read. Follows his life through childhood to death all through the war and his presidency etc.

I’m looking for a good book on Jefferson, something similar to what Chernow did on Hamilton. Something with an unbiased author
