Finally finished Best Served Cold. Took me awhile I’ve been super busy and it’s the longest book of the series. I’ll admit after the first few chapters I thought it would be a run of the mill revenge story, and some of it was, but it really ramped up the last 3rd with the twists and turns, awesome stuff from Abercrombie once again and some of his best character work. I hated all of them by the end besides Friendly but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. They’re all shitty people. Also, felt like I was reading erotica in some parts, he gets pretty descriptive with the sex scenes
Before I finished I told myself I was going to take a break from First Law as I normally read a Stephen king book for October, but now that im finished I kinda wanna jump straight into The Heroes and continue to see the world tie together.

The Hero’s was my fav or the stand alones for sure. Some of the best fight scenes Joe does.

I just finished Red Country and I loved all three. My rankings would be:
The Heroes
Red Country
Best Served Cold
I’m debating starting the Sharp Ends short stories now or waiting to take a break before the Age of Madness. My next series will be Bobiverse to appease a friend that has been asking that I start it for a while.

Sharp Ends works best if you read them in chronological order. It's hard to tie them in to the story reading it straight through. At least is is for me because my memory isn't that good, I'll get mixed up on where that short story is supposed to be taking place in the timeline.

Such a tough call. I'd probably lean the opposite way except maybe Best served Cold being my favorite. I think Heroes has by far the best fighting of any of his books, it's pretty incredible. But the story didn't draw me in quite as much. I still love it, but if I'm forced to pick I'd say it's my least favorite of the stand alones.

Just scooped up The Heroes. I have a feeling it will be my favorite because I absolutely love the Northman, I think they’re the best part of the series
Agree on Sharp Ends. I ordered it with the original trilogy and have read each short story in chronological order with the series. To the poster above, if you look at the time line on Wiki it will tell you when to read which chapters. It’s really awesome that way, they have a short story on the bloody nine that really paints a picture of how evil he was during the northern wars

It’s too late for me. I already read the first 6 books because the order I saw when I googled had Sharp Ends as book 7 in the order. I did a poor job researching because I was nervous about accidentally reading spoilers. I do have a couple friends nearing the end of the first trilogy and I will surely be passing this information along to them so they don’t make the same mistake I did.

Pretty much the same way for me. Though Red Country would be my favorite with Best Served Cold close behind.

Anthony Ryan just came out with a new series, with a first book. I loved his last series.
It's excellent, set in the same world as Covenant of Steel, but more "viking" based. I'm a fan of Ryan, probably even more so than Sanderson.

Interesting. Are there any character crossovers or mention of what happened? Like is it happening same time of after Convenant of steel? Read Covenant of Steel after Red rising so it took a hit not being as good as that and followed it by poppy war which I didn’t care for either so it get lumped in a hard reading time lol.

It takes place probably a couple of decades or so after Covenant of Steel and there are a few return characters and suggestions of others possibly playing a part. As far as I can tell, it isn't continuing any of the plotline, just happens in the same world.

Yeah I am only a couple of chapters in but I like that its set in the same world.

I'm now into the five warrior angel series by Brian lee durfee. This is a must read. First book in the trilogy is the forgetting Moon I'm almost through and its stellar. I hear the other books are even better

Ordered the Foundation book trilogy last night as I am nearing the end of Ender’s Game, should I just purge any expectations from the Apple TV+ series from my brain before reading?

Just finished Black Stone Heart, the first book in the Obsidian Path trilogy.
Man.. I wouldn't even call this grimdark. It's like, "protagonist is straight up evil and so are all the characters.... now lets write a bunch about wholesale human sacrifice and make the plot and characters really interesting."
Anyway, I'm liking this series so far, even though I'm a little disturbed that I'm liking it. It's almost like if Hellraiser were written from the point of view of a cenobite.
Also... the writing in general is strong, which is a welcome break from Gunmetal Gods, which I abandoned after just not being able to handle the clumsy writing, bizarre characater development, and illogical plot.

Just finished The Greatcoats series and whoever recommended that thank you. Fun and funny adventure but still dark at the same time. Love my adventure with Falcio, Kest, and Brasti. Is the series done after 4 or did he write more books but it’s a different series? Finishing Sanderson reread then was gonna do Cradle series or maybe that.

Think it was me suggesting it along with someone else. I think that's all he's written that has that crew in it though.
He wrote a greatcoats short story book and he released the first book in a new series set in the greatcoats world recently, but I think it's all new characters. I haven't read either yet, so not sure whether there are cameos.
I do highly recommend the Spellslinger series though, it is very good.

Foundation is Mrs. Iwys favorite book series and she's a big sci fi person. She watched like two episodes of the show and quit watching. She's not a anti woke/anti Hollywood type person so she didn't swap because gender and race swaps, she just stopped because it's so far off from the books that she had no desire to watch.
You'll see similarities obviously but the show doesn't resemble the book at all imo. I never watched S2 of the show. I'm more of a fantasy fan than I am Sci-Fi but it is a very enjoyable read, especially if you like some politics mixed in.

You're going to love Curnden Craw.

Craw is a great character but I’m loving me some Whirrun of Bligh. I’m a sucker for a crazy badass lol

Corporal Tunny was my favorite
